BMW India has taken the covers off its upcoming 5 Series LWB sedan. The brand has officially unveiled the sedan for the Indian market and the launch is set to take place on 24 July. The upcoming BMW 5 Series LWB will be the third long-wheelbase sedan in BMW India after the 3 Series LWB & 7 Series LWB. The brand has revealed the dimensions, features, and other details of the upcoming 5 Series LWB but the engine specs are still under wraps. BMW 5 Series LWB - Design & Dimensions
The new 5 Series LWB is based on BMW's 2.5 Box Design. It comes with a signature BMW kidney grille with illuminated surroundings, and a long bonnet with sharp lines meeting the kidney grille. It gets a new headlamp assembly with BMW adaptive LED lighting, blue accents are available in the headlamp assembly for better aesthetics. The DRLs are now vertically stacked and the headlamp design showcases BMW's signature four-eye face.
The side profile gets a sleek shoulder line that runs across the length of the sedan. The model previewed was fitted with 225/55-R18 wheels. BMW might also offer 19-inch wheels as an option. The rear takes some design cues from the flagship 7 Series sedan. It boasts a sleek L-shaped wraparound LED tail lamp which makes the rear end more appealing.
Dimension-wise the new 5 Series LWB measures 5,175 mm in length, 1,900 in width, 1,520 mm in height, and boasts a wheelbase of 3,105 mm. The sedan also boasts a boot space of 500 liters.
BMW 5 Series LWB - Interior
The interior of the new 5 Series LWB is beautifully designed and offers great space on the front as well as the rear row. The interior has vegan leather seats, a minimalistic dashboard with hidden air vents, and a curved display for the infotainment and instrument cluster. The center console on the front row gets twin wireless charging pads, two cup holders, a crystal jewel-finished gear selector, a volume control knob, and a center console control knob. The rear row gets a comfortable two-seat setup. The centre of the seat has a big armrest with integrated cup holders and a wireless charging pad.
BMW 5 Series LWB - Features
As a business sedan of the brand, the 5 Series LWB will come with an abundance of features. It boasts vegan leather seats, front electrically adjustable seats with lumbar support, curved screens on the dashboard with a 14.9-inch infotainment display and a 12.3-inch instrument console, touch-sensitive HVAC panel, 4-zone climate control, wireless charging, ventilated seats at the front and back, BMW 8.5 OS, 15 color interactive ambient lighting. Further, it boasts 18-speaker Bowers and Wilkins speakers, 6 USB Type C ports, and a fixed panoramic sunroof, among other features. On the safety front, the sedan gets multiple airbags, Level 2 ADAS, a 360-degree surround view camera, and rear and front parking sensors among other features.
BMW 5 Series LWB - Launch, Price & Rivals
BMW 5 Series LWB is all set to be launched on 24 July 2024. We can anticipate the price of the new 5 Series to start near Rs 72 lakh or Rs 75 lakh (ex-showroom). The sedan will compete directly with the Mercedes-Benz E Class LWB version. Interestingly, the Mercedes-Benz E Class is also due for an update and it is expected to receive one in the coming months or year's end. It'll be interesting to see how BMW will price the 5 Series LWB to make it a tough rival in its segment.

Verdict
The BMW 5 Series boasts a plethora of features and the long wheelbase version offers immense space. It can be a tough rival for the Mercedes-Benz E Class in the Indian market. The brand has not yet revealed the engine specifications of the sedan and it is expected to get a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine. The 5 Series LWB has all the potentials to be a good business sedan priced under Rs 1 crore in the Indian market. It will be interesting to see BMW India's pricing strategy to ensure this sedan's success in the Indian market.
