Aiming for local production and achieving high production target has led the BMW group India to the mark of 1 Lakh cars. BMW India group celebrated the production of their 1,00,000th car from their local-Chennai based production plant.
A BMW Individual 740 Li M Sport became the car to be the 1,00,000th 'Made-in-India' car from the BMW India. The black coloured flagship luxury sedan from the BMW group was rolled-out of the Chennai-based production plant.
BMW India started their Chennai-based production facility back on 29th March 2007. Currently with a total workforce of 650 people, BMW has enabled themselves of producing 13 models from their stable, locally. This localization has helped the German carmaker to achieve good sales figures and roll-out the 1,00,000th car from their production facility.
With 15 years of production time in India, BMW has tied up themselves with local partners for the supply of necessary and localized parts which has also helped in keeping the costs reasonable against the competition. Currently, BMW produces BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe, BMW 3 Series, BMW 3 Series Gran Limousine, BMW M340i, BMW 5 Series, BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo, BMW 7 Series, BMW X1, BMW X3, BMW X4, BMW X5, BMW X7, and even the MINI Countryman are being produced at the local facility. All of this production takes place with 100 percent green electricity which BMW is specially proud of.
Talking about the 1,00,000th car; BMW Individual 740 Li M Sport is the flagship executive sedan from the car maker. Priced at Rs 1.47 Crores (ex-showroom) this car stands for the individuality and its sporty characteristics as well. Powered by a 3.0 Lt, inline-6 cylinder, turbo-petrol engine; it produces a peak power of 261.49 bhp @ 4000 rpm and a peak torque of 450 Nm @ 1500-2000 rpm. BMW uses a 8-speed torque converter automatic gearbox for transmission purposes. The powerful and luxurious sedan can propel itself to the 250 kmph mark which is also electronically limited.
