How these standard will benefit?
The new standards presented by BIS will reassure customers that EVs are safe and reliable. This action will also lead to more environmentally friendly production, ensuring the safety of both manufacturers and buyers. Notably, these standards apply not only to cars and trucks but also to e-rickshaws and e-karts, which have largely shifted to electric. Last year, BIS introduced IS 18294: 2023, a standard specifically designed for e-rickshaws.
EV market in the country
Last year, India saw the purchase of 1.5 million electric vehicles, with passenger vehicles experiencing a remarkable 114% surge. Tata is dominating the market with its popular models, including the Tata Punch EV, Nexon EV, and Tigor EV. The key reasons for the success of these cars are their 5-star Global NCAP safety ratings, ranges exceeding 400 km, and support for DC fast charging. Next year, we can expect the launch of more electric vehicles, including the Tata Harrier EV, Hyundai Creta EV, Tata Safari EV, and Honda Elevate EV. Additionally, who knows? Within two years, we might even see Tesla cars in our country. We'll have to wait and keep our fingers crossed.
