Can We Make Rural India Self Sustainable With EV Infrastructure?

Do you think rural EV Infrastructure could lead us to the development of the country? Let us look into this idea in detail.

It was only recently, India took a leap into the abyss to understand sustainable mobility. Today, the country is producing electric vehicles as it is believed to be the future of mobility. The country now manufactures electric vehicles using indigenous technology without depending on other sources. Interestingly 70% of EVs in India are two-wheelers which means that the country is considering better steps for EV conversion.

Now that the EV industry is gradually stepping forward into converting cities into EV hubs, the next step could be targeting rural areas. Most of the rural areas in India already have the infrastructure for generating energy from solar panels and all they need to do is set up charging infrastructure to utilise the energy saved throughout the day.

According to experts, the Indian Government can make policies regarding EV infrastructure for rural consumers to utilise, which will increase the production and utilisation of EVs even in rural areas. Today, many EVs have the capacity to power an entire house with the electricity charged in them. This could transform rural areas entirely. It could be the next step for the development of rural areas.

Such a development process can benefit rural consumers. Think about it. The solar water pumps could also be a source for charging EVs. This could solve the problem of transportation or mobility in rural areas. Policymakers could provide incentives for participating in grid operations and supply of extra energy. This could increase the production of EVs, increase efficiency, increase income and most importantly stop the global warming crisis.

Forming A Policy:

The state governments could consider an EV enhancement policy. Currently, the state governments are focused on sales, market scale and environmental impact however, in order to enhance sales and the aforementioned idea or rural ev enhancement, the government must identify short term and long term goals.

Secondly, Electric vehicles could be categorised based on the purpose of use, segment, and ownership. By categorising, the government could identify which group contributes the most to air pollution. After identifying such groups, the process of converting those groups to opt for EVs is much easier. Also, categorising will help the government identify the vehicle groups that are growing fast in terms of population and sales. This would help understand the demand structure of consumers who prefer EVs.

But why is it a necessity to convert Rural infrastructure to EV friendly infrastructure in India?

The total generation capacity of electricity is 374.2 GW yet, it is not enough to provide electricity that consumers demand. But what about rural areas? In villages or rural areas, electricity is supplied only for about 12 to 14 hours a day. So providing a sustainable solution is the best option for the government and EV infrastructure could be the best alternative for the quick development of rural India.

Taking such a decision and considering options to make such a policy could be one of the best alternatives for the betterment of our society.
