- Citroen Basalt EV spotted testing
- Gets subtle design tweaks when compared to ICE models
- Possible launch around early to mid 2025
Citroen Basalt is the only rival to the Tata Curvv where both these are the pioneers of an all-new space of mass premium coupe SUVs. Characterized by a sloping sedan-like roof line at the rear coupled with a higher SUVish ground clearance, it keeps everything pretty interesting. While the Basalt has been around for some time now, it looks like the Citroen Basalt EV is all set to make its debut soon as well, as it looks like in the latest spy shots. Let's look at further details on what the test mule gives away, but before that, make sure you don't forget to join our 91Wheels Whatsapp Channel, specifically curated for all the avid petrolheads, just like us.

Citroen Basalt EV Spied Testing Under Wraps
There are no points guessing as to what car this test mule hides underneath. A Coupe SUV with a typical Citroen-styled headlamp and tail lamp assembly can be none other than the Citroen Basalt itself. While you already have the ICE versions already on the market, this one has EV written all over it( not literally). This could be a response to the Tata Curvv, which is already on sale and is gaining traction as well.
Recent spy shots reveal that the upcoming Citroen Basalt EV will share many design cues with its ICE counterpart, albeit with subtle electric vehicle-specific tweaks. These include a redesigned front bumper, the absence of a traditional grille, and minor adjustments to the air dam. Additionally, the EV version is expected to feature new alloy wheel designs and a charging port likely positioned on the left rear fender.
The Basalt EV will retain several striking design elements from its petrol siblings, such as the distinctive wraparound taillights, shark-fin antenna, high-mounted stop lamp, sloping roofline, split headlamp setup, and distinctive flap-type door handles.
Although the interiors could not be spied with these spy shots, it is expected to be very much in line with the ICE models, with some minor tweaks. The interior of the upcoming Citroen Basalt EV is expected to offer a range of modern features, including a wireless charging pad, automatic climate control, tire pressure monitoring system, wireless connectivity, a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and a few more to keep it at par with the current compact SUV space.

Battery & Range
While specific details about the Basalt EV's powertrain are yet to be officially revealed, it is speculated to be powered by a 35kWh battery pack coupled with a single electric motor. This configuration could potentially offer an estimated range of 450 kilometers on a full charge which is what the current market standards are for the segment that it targets. It is expected to launch by mid-2025.
Verdict
The Basalt EV will set the pace for a new segment to finally come to life with 4 offerings in the space with 2 EVs and 2 ICE models, a new selection list for those looking for something different. While its launch is still sometime away in future, the ICE models still continue to outsell the EVs in the open markets ans the EV stigma still looms even after much advancements.
