Ford Ecosport is one of the no-nonsense compact SUVs with good features but most importantly, offers the pleasure of driving. It is the 1.5-litre oil burner which commands the most sales and hence we decided to do our 91Wheels style Kitna Deti Hain run on this. We have the BS6 diesel version of the Ford Ecosport and we attained a maximum mileage of 26.8 km/l.
Before we share with you about the mileage figures of BS6 Ford Ecosport diesel and how we achieved it, make sure you are a member of our exclusive 91Wheels Whatsapp group where we share latest updates about the Indian Automotive Industry.
We performed this fuel economy test on the Western Peripheral Expressway which gives us roads with less traffic and fewer tolls so our fuel economy doesn't get affected. We did a total run of 192 km which is an average highway run and we achieved 26.8 km/l on a fairly brand new car. This wasn't as per the display but under a proper tankful to tankful method.

Our first step is to fill the tank till auto cut and then reset the trip meters. As you can see in the video, we reset the trip meter showing distance travelled, average speed, average fuel economy and among other figures. The main goal was to cruise at decent highway speeds of about 85 km/h and extract the best possible mileage.
We started driving the Ecosport with a light right foot and set the cruise limit at 85 km/h. Since the speed of most highways sticks at 90 km/h, we decided to lower our figures by 5 km/h. For the first 30 km, the diesel Ecosport delivered an efficient 30.9 km/l at 85 km/h. The average speed was at 74 km/h.
When we crossed the 75 km mark, the fuel efficiency was dropping a little and as the tripmeter showed 28.8 km/l mileage, we were not surprised considering it is a 1.5L diesel unit. Then at the 152 km mark, the economy dropped by 0.5 km/l and showed us 28.3 km/l. However, the good thing was that the total distance to empty showed us 1202 km to empty so that made us happy.

The mileage would have been more if there was the 6th gear to keep the RPM levels down. Nonetheless, while doing this 192 km highway run, we came across a steep decline which helped us in delivering a greater fuel economy.
During our final leg of the journey, the displayed economy was 27.3 km/l but we wanted to see it for ourselves. We went to the fuel station again and found out only 7.15 litres of fuel has been used for the 192 km journey. When you calculate then the real-world mileage of Ecosport comes to 26.85 km/l which is amazingly well for a car of this size.
This was the 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine which is also known as the most reliable unit. This one generates 99 bhp with a peak torque of 215 Nm. It comes with a 5-speed manual gearbox only. This SUV competes with Maruti Brezza, Toyota Urban Cruiser, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet and Mahindra XUV300.
