Honda Bikes To Get ADAS: Crosswind Assist, Lane Departure Assist, and More
As seen in the leaked design patent images, Honda is working on multiple systems that will cumulatively make riders safe. One of these is the lane departure assist system. With the help of radars, sensors, and servo motors, Honda is developing a system that will auto-correct the handle if a rider mistakenly switches lanes. However, we're not sure whether it'll auto-handle the direction or generate an alert via vibrations, but, the lane departure assist will help riders in case of a blind spot accident.
Another addition to these autonomous systems is the crosswind assist system. As motorcycles are lighter and get affected by strong weather, the crosswind assist will again help a rider by counterbalancing the steering inputs. In case of strong winds coming from either side of the rider, the auto-correct method of the handlebar will make it less tiring to steer the bike in such a scenario.
As per the patent images, the actuator will be installed behind the handlebar. It'll send the steering input readings to the onboard computer which then will be programmed to assist the rider by making correct handlebar inputs as well as creating ease. These motors will create 'controlled vibrations' that will help the rider to focus and immediately correct the lane or the direction. Honda is also developing other technologies like an adaptive cruise control system that will help during long rides.
The first bikes to get autonomous driving assist aids are likely to be the top models like the CBR1000RR-R. Later on, if this tech becomes more accessible, Honda shall introduce this to smaller-capacity bikes like the CBR650R and the CB300R. We're not sure about the global debut timeline of it, but when this happens, Honda will revolutionize the two-wheeler industry forever.
Verdict
Honda has always been a pinnacle in engineering among two-wheelers. The increasing traffic density has led to the introduction of these safety features in cars, which have been a successful inclusion. Now, the ADAS in bikes will help save lives of the two-wheeler riders on the road. Tell us in the comments what you think about this tech developed by Honda.
