Honda Cars India Ltd. (HCIL) is kicking off July with the "Honda Magical Monsoon" campaign, offering fantastic discounts on their models, including the Honda Elevate, Honda City, Honda City e:HEV, and Honda Amaze. The highlight of this campaign is the opportunity for customers to receive an assured discount of Rs 75,000 or the chance to win an exclusive couple's trip to Switzerland.

However, it's clear that this campaign aims to boost sales due to a rise in unsold inventory. Let's dive into the details of this offer and see exactly how much discount Honda is providing. Also, make sure to join 91Wheels WhatsApp Group to stay updated on the latest automotive news.

According to the press release, Honda will also provide surprise gifts to all customers who take a test drive from July 1st to July 31st. Additionally, these special gestures are not part of the monthly benefits the company is offering on their models. Clearly, Honda is working hard to reclaim its lost glory.

Soon after the press release, the automaker posted a photo on their social media handle detailing the offers available on their cars, and the numbers are impressive.

Honda Amaze

On the best-selling Honda in India, customers can receive benefits of up to Rs 96,000. The Honda Amaze offers the biggest benefits, which vary depending on the model. It is powered by a 1.2L i-VTEC engine that produces 90 PS and 110 Nm of torque. Additionally, it offers two transmission options: a 5-speed manual and a CVT with paddle shifters.

On the other hand, customers opting to retrofit CNG in their Amaze from an authorised fitting center will receive Rs 40,000 upon submitting their Customer Declaration and Registration Certificate, indicating the change of fuel to CNG. So the total benefits on this car exceed Rs 1 lakh.

The acclaimed average mileage of the manual transmission Amaze is 18.6 km/l, while the CVT achieves a mileage of 18.3 km/l. That said, the Amaze competes with the Maruti Dzire, Hyundai Aura, and Tata Tigor.

Honda City

On the Honda City, customers can avail benefits up to Rs 88,000, depending on the model. The fifth generation of the City debuted in 2020 with impressive sales figures, sparking hope for a resurgence in sedan popularity. However, its glorious run was relatively short-lived.

The City offers features like ADAS level 1, a wireless charging pad, ambient lighting, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It comes with a single engine option, the 1.5L i-VTEC, producing 121 PS and 145 Nm of torque. This engine has been legendary since the 3rd generation of the City, known for the thrill when the i-VTEC kicks in.

There are two transmissions available here: a 6-speed manual and a 7-step CVT. The average mileage from the manual gearbox is 17.8 km/l, while the CVT achieves 18.4 km/l. The competitiors of Honda City are Hyundai Verna, Skoda Slavia, Volkswagen Virtus, and Maruti Ciaz.

Honda City e:HEV

The flagship model of Honda India is now available with benefits up to Rs 65,000 under Honda monsoon campaign. The City e:HEV, as the name suggests, combines an internal combustion engine with an electric motor, resulting in impressive mileage of 26.5 km/l in both city and highway driving conditions.

Combined power output is 126 PS and peak torque reaches 253 Nm. This vehicle achieves such mileage because during initial acceleration, the battery propels the vehicle. Once a certain speed is reached, the engine takes over while the battery continues to recharge itself.

The base variant of this car costs Rs 19 lakh, while the top-spec ZX Reinforced Saftey CVT is priced at Rs 20.55 lakh ex-showroom. Its only competitor in the market is the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara.

Honda Elevate

The Honda Elevate is crucial for the brand's lineup, and this July, the company is offering benefits up to Rs 65,000. Sharing its platform, engine, and features with the City, the Elevate is powered by the same 1.5L i-VTEC engine producing 121 PS and 145 Nm of torque.

However, it feels underpowered compared to competitors like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos, which also comes with multiple powertrain options and variants.

In contrast, Honda offers only one engine option, two transmissions, and the V, VX, and ZX trims. This compact SUV starts at Rs 11.69 lakh, while the top model costs Rs 16.43 lakh ex-showroom.

Verdict

So, while these benefits are indeed outstanding and tempting, we all know the underlying reasons behind them. Honda India is currently struggling to establish itself in the Indian market, facing undisclosed daily losses. This is primarily due to a lack of competitive options compared to its rivals. Their latest offering, the Elevate, shines like a dim light in a dark room, lacking alternative powertrain options, transmissions, and other features found in competitors' models. Hopefully, Honda will soon introduce something to bridge this gap with customers, or else they will continue relying on these festive benefits to attract buyers.
