The Japanese motorcycle brand Kawasaki seems to be planning to launch a dual-sports motorcycle in the Indian market. Recently, the test mule of the Kawasaki KLX 230 has been spotted in India with some India-specific elements. Kawasaki KLX 230 Spotted
The newly spotted test mule of the KLX 230 boasts a dual-sport design language with a perimeter frame, moto-cross type handlebar, LED headlamp, raised front fender, and a long single seat for rider and pillion among other design elements. The brand has added a saree guard which indicates that this model could be India-specific and the saree guard is added to comply with the norms. The motorcycle also sports telescopic front forks, a rear mono shock absorber, wired spokes wheel, and front & rear disc brakes.
If we talk about the numbers the KLX 230 comes with 37mm telescopic forks with 158 mm of wheel travel and 168 mm wheel travel at the back. The weight of the motorcycle is a mere 134 kg, the ground clearance measures 210 mm and the seat height is 830 mm. On the features front, the motorcycle will get dual-channel ABS and a simple LCD instrument cluster.
Coming to the engine department, it will be powered by a 233cc, air-cooled engine which produces 19 PS of power and 19.8 Nm of peak torque. If this is launched in India, the brand will make the bike BS6 phase 2 compliant to pass all the regulatory checks and to become road legal.

Verdict
If launched in India, the KLX 230 will compete with the Hero Xpulse 210. Also, if the Japanese brand is thinking of producing this motorcycle in India with local manufacturing we can expect the pricing to come down and to be in the range of Rs 2.5 lakh to 3 lakh (ex-showroom). But a dual-sport motorcycle with this price tag will attract some buyers.
