Kia Carens Scores 3 Stars
The Kia Carens initially received a disappointing zero-star rating for adult occupant protection in Global NCAP's latest tests due to insufficient neck and chest protection for the driver and marginal knee protection for both driver and passenger. This applied to Kia Carens models produced between May 2nd and December 11th, 2023. But Kudos to the brand, Kia promptly addressed these concerns by enhancing the restraint systems, particularly neck protection. As a result, Carens models built after December 11th, 2023 achieved a 3-star rating with a score of 22.07 out of 34, though Global NCAP expressed that a higher rating was expected given the standard six airbags.
The Kia Carens' frontal impact tests showed good head protection but weaknesses in neck and knee areas. While the bodyshell couldn't withstand further stress, side impacts fared well with good protection for occupants' head, chest, abdomen, and pelvis.
Child Occupant Protection
The Carens initially received a 4-star rating for child occupant protection (COP) with a score of 40.92 out of 49. However, thanks to improvements in the restraint system, particularly for the 3-year-old dummy, the Carens achieved a perfect 5-star rating in child protection in subsequent tests, scoring 41 out of 49 points.
