Kia Carnival is no doubt a van, I repeat a luxury van with power sliding doors. Like the other cars we get for the video review, the Carnival too was the much-awaited vehicle. So we wasted no time in bringing you what an average Indian user requires while buying a car and that is 'Kitna Deti Hain'. In this video, we explain to you how much fuel economy we got for the Kia Carnival in our test run!
Under the hood, Kia Carnival gets a larger 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel unit which makes as much as 200 PS of power. For a MPV of this big size, we say the 2.2L oil burner makes sense. The peak torque is recorded at 440 Nm and it is mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The ARAI claimed fuel efficiency sticks at 13.9 km/l. So how the heck did we manage 2.9 km/l more that is 16.8 km/l ? We explain it to you!
So as you can from the video above, we did this test run on a 270 km highway which comprises of WPE (Western Peripheral Expressway) as well as EPE (Eastern Peripheral Expressway). The technique used was to fill the diesel from brim to brim and reset all the trip meters and check the tyre pressure. We also did this test with AC controls set to 22 degrees Celcius with two people on board.

Just remember, follow the above steps before giving a punch to the throttle. Now, keep your foot slow and attain a speed of 90 km/h gradually. You will notice how the 8-speed helps in preserving fuel economy. We'll talk about that later.
Once you attain that certain limit of yours, make sure you set the cruise control to 90km/h. We generally follow the 80km/h speed but then since it gets a heavy engine and we did not wanted the engine to take up the load.
As you can see the MID reflect a 18.7 km/l mark for the first 50 km which was a lot. We obviously got help from the gravity and the inclined places and empty roads for which we achieved good economy. After that, the economy took a tip because of the several toll plazas we encountered on our way.

The overall display on the MID came out to be 17.3 km/l but then when we went to the same petrol pump to fill up the tank from brim to brim, it gave us a calculated fuel economy of 16.8 km/l altogether. Still, we managed to surpass the ARAI limit. Do let us know in the comment section as to which car/SUV you are looking to watch in our favourite fuel efficiency test!
