Land Rover Defender Octa: Details

The Defender Octa is said to be the most capable, most powerful Defender, and it does look the part. It has grown over the regular Defender in terms of dimensions, sitting 28mm taller and 68mm wider. The flared wheel arches, larger grille, redesigned bumpers at both ends further lend it a beefier, more purposeful appearance. There are four colour schemes to choose from; Petra Copper, Faroe Green, Carpathian Grey, and Charente Grey. Additionally, Land Rover also offers dual-tone treatment on the roof and tailgate, in a shade of gloss Narvik Black.
While the standard Defender Octa comes with 22-inch wheels, the Defender Octa One Edition comes with 20-inch wheels. More importantly, the Octa rides on the largest tyres ever fitted to a production-spec Defender.

In terms of capabilities, the Defender Octa comes with a 6D Dynamics suspension, which helps in maximum wheel articulation and reduced body roll on-road. Some other revised suspension components include active dampers and tougher wishbones. There is also a bespoke off-road setting called Octa mode, which enhances traction, braking and acceleration on loose surfaces, while also altering the interior lighting, exhaust sound and gearshifts. The off-road launch mode also optimises acceleration and the off-road ABS calibration improves braking on loose surfaces.

Performance-wise, the Defender Octa is packing a 4.4-litre mild-hybrid V8 powertrain, producing 626bhp and 750Nm of torque, paired to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. 0-100kmph comes up in 4 seconds, and Land Rover has also deployed 400mm Brembo discs to bring it to a halt, which are said to be the largest fitted to a Defender, and made specifically for the Octa.

The interiors of the Defender Octa are similar to the regular Defender's, featuring a 11.4-inch Pivi Pro touch screen infotainment system a 700W 15-speaker Meridian sound system. However, the Octa receives Burnt Sienna semi-aniline leather upholstery. Additionally, the Octa also receives new Body and Soul seat technology on the front seats, which cause vibrations in sync with the music being played in the car.
Verdict
The Defender Octa is quite different when it comes to go-faster SUVs. It isn't just powerful, but it is also more capable when it comes to taking the unbeaten path. The fact that its owners will not utilize even half of its capabilities is a different topic altogether.
