New Maruti Suzuki MPV To Be Based On Spacia

As per an online report (source), the new MPV will be based on the Spacia. Codenamed YDB, this upcoming MPV will be added along with new models like eVX, Swift, and Dzire. Maruti sells Spacia in global markets, which will be used for developing the YDB. Unlike the Spacia, the YDB will have an elongated platform for multiple seating options. Also, this model will fall short of 4 mt length to save taxes and keep the cost-benefit ratio sustainable.

In terms of design, it will have a boxy shape but the elements like front fascia, lights, bumpers, etc., will differ. Moreover, the interiors will also get a very different design appeal when compared to the Spacia. The Spacia sold in Japan has two-row seats but the Indian-spec might get an additional third-row. Additionally, the new 1.2-lt Z-series petrol engine might power the YDB in India. This engine is destined to debut with the new-gen upcoming Swift. Maruti plans to introduce it sometime around 2026. Once launched, it'll rival the Renault Triber.
Verdict
Maruti India has plans to introduce new segments in the car market over the coming years. The YDB platform will open up gates to the affrodable MPV segment which shall mainly benefit the commercial operators. With the diesel engines out of the picture, the affordable CNG models of MPVs are attracting large families & cab operators.
