Bajaj Chetak E-Scooter - Upcoming Affordable Variant
The current lineup of Bajaj Chetak includes two variants: Premium and Urbane, priced at Rs 1.47 lakh and Rs 1.23 lakh, respectively. It's anticipated that a new variant will hit the market with an even more affordable price tag, possibly around Rs 1 lakh. To keep costs down while maintaining decent power and performance, the new Chetak variant will likely follow suit with a hub motor and a reduced battery size. This move aligns with the strategy seen in competitors like Ola, whose S1X variants offer affordability by employing hub motors and smaller battery capacities.
Some features present in the urbane model might be omitted in the new variant, balancing affordability with functionality. It is expected that the upcoming variant will sport subtle design adjustments, all the while preserving the core body components and overall visual appeal akin to its larger counterparts.

Rising Competition In The Market For Bajaj Chetak
As time passes, the market is becoming increasingly competitive, especially with new launches from top competitors like Ola and Ather. Ola introduced its S1X and S1X+ models in August 2023, which are among the most affordable options available, priced between Rs 70,000 and Rs 1 lakh. Meanwhile, Ather has stepped up the competition with its feature-packed Rizta EV, priced at Rs 1.10 lakh. With its design, performance, and features, the Rizta EV is giving tough competition to its rivals. In response to this intense competition, Bajaj Auto is also working diligently to progress and capture its target market, just like its competitors have done.
Verdict
Bajaj Auto's upcoming budget-friendly electric vehicle indicates the increasing competition in the market and a new strategy to target the mass market. With its features and significantly lower price point, it is expected to attract a wider consumer base who are looking for more affordable options and some relief for their pockets.
