- Leaked document claims a range of 156 km
Ather revamped its scooter lineup in August by launching the more budget-friendly Ather 450 S model. And it does not plan on stopping it at just that. According to homologation documents, it appears that Ather is gearing up to introduce another addition to this scooter family namely Ather 450S HR. This will be a long-range iteration and targets the Ola S1X+ as a direct rival.
Let's look at some more details of the same.
Ather 450S HR Homologated: Coming Soon With 3.76 kWh Battery
Ather Energy is expanding its electric scooter lineup with a larger battery variant of the recently released 450S model. Just as the flagship Ather 450X offers a choice between 2.9 kWh and 3.7 kWh battery packs, the Ather 450S now also gets this treatment. The "HR" in Ather 450S HR likely stands for "High Range" or "Higher Range." Ather's recent revamp of its electric scooter lineup aimed to enhance affordability following a significant reduction in the FAME 2 subsidy earlier in the year. This involved offering the existing 450X with a choice between a 3.7kWh battery pack and a smaller 2.9kWh pack.

What The Specs Say: Range And Power
Ather claims that the 450S HR has a range of 156 km, as per AIS 040 certification, on a single charge. This figure is 10 km higher than the 450X Gen 3 with a 3.7 kWh battery. The actual range may be around 110-120 km on a single charge. Compared to the current 450S, the upcoming 450S HR offers a 41 km higher claimed range and approximately 20 km higher true range. The Ather 450S HR features a Nickel and Cobalt-based Li-ion battery and is equipped with a 3-phase PMS motor produced by Mahle, delivering up to 5.4 kW peak power (7.24 bhp) in Sports Mode. It offers four riding modes: Eco Mode, Smart Eco Mode, Ride Mode, and Sports Mode.
Expected Price
The Ather 450 S is currently available at an ex-showroom price of Rs 1.3 lakh. If you opt for the Pro pack, which provides various features including riding modes, the total cost will be Rs 1.43 lakh (ex-showroom). For the latest 450X with the 3.7 kWh battery pack, Ather has not disclosed the prices yet. However, the Gen 3 450X is priced at Rs 1.45 lakh. When you include the Pro pack, which comes at an extra cost of Rs 20,000, the ex-showroom price rises to Rs 1.65 lakh.
Anticipate the Ather 450S HR to be priced in the range of Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 1.6 lakh (ex-showroom, with the Pro Pack).
Verdict
Ather Energy's latest move to offer a more affordable 450S HR electric scooter is a smart response to the changes in the EV market. Ather is actively addressing the need for cost-effective and practical electric mobility. With an impressive claimed range of 156 km (AIS 040 certified), the 450S HR is going to be an attractive choice for urban commuters looking to make the shift to electric scooters. Ather's commitment to innovation and affordability in the electric two-wheeler segment is evident in this strategic move. However, pricing will play a crucial role in determining the scooter's success in the competitive EV market.
