Mahindra launched the all-new second-generation Thar earlier this month and it has already attracted more than 9,000 official bookings. Mahindra has launched the all-new Thar 10 years after the first model and over the years, the first-generation Thar never received a significant update. Mahindra did massive changes to the all-new Thar and there are quite a few things that this model can do but the old one cannot! Here are the top five things right here.
Easy highway cruising
If you have been following our videos, you must have watched out highway test of the all-new Thar. Since it is based on a new platform, the all-new Thar is extremely stable with a major improvement to the NVH levels. Unlike the old Thar, the new one gets a powerful petrol and an improved diesel engine options that can ensure a constant cruising speed of more than 100 km/h on the highways. Something that you simply cannot do with the older Thar comfortably. Given the right road, the diesel model will even hit the 170 km/h mark on the speedometer.
Driving pleasure and comfort
There is no doubt that the older, first-generation Thar is a good SUV but when it comes driving pleasure, especially on the tarmac, it offers none. The all-new Mahindra Thar offers a much better ride quality. Also, for the first time, Mahindra Thar gets an automatic transmission, which makes it extremely useful inside the city limits. Mahindra has also updated the seats to make them much more comfortable and for the first a few variants of the Thar also get front-facing rear seats, increasing overall comfort in the vehicle.
Connect your phone
The all-new Thar gets a factory-fitted touchscreen infotainment system. The 8.0-inch screen gets Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. That's not all, the system also shows various technical information like lean angle, rake angle, compass and more. You can also control the infotainment system with the controls mounted on the steering wheel, which the older Thar never offered.
Wash the cabin
The cabin of the all-new Mahindra Thar is IP54 rated for dust and waterproofing. There are drain plugs inside the cabin that can be opened to let water out of the vehicle. You can even wash the floor of the all-new Thar without any worry! Older Thar is much more difficult and complicated when it comes to cleaning after a good off-roading session.
Choose different roof options
The first-generation Mahindra Thar only offered a single soft-top roof option. With the all-new Thar, you get three of them. There is a hard-top roof, which is made up of fibre and the sturdiest of all. There is also a fixed soft rooftop, just like the 1st generation Thar. Mahindra has also introduced a soft-top convertible roof, which can be opened and closed!
