Pricing and Compatibility

Renault India

The newly launched CNG retrofit kits are competitively priced, starting at Rs 75,000 for the Renault Kwid and Rs 79,500 for both the Kiger and Triber models. These kits are not factory-fitted but are instead retrofitted using homologated equipment that adheres to all necessary safety and performance standards. Installation is carried out through Renault's preferred vendor network. All this will happen with high-quality fitment and compliance with government regulations.

Renault has confirmed that these retrofit kits are exclusively available for models equipped with the 1.0L 3-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine and a manual transmission. Turbocharged variants and automatic transmissions are currently excluded from this offering.

Performance Assurance and Warranty

The company assures customers that adding the CNG kit will not compromise the vehicle's driving performance. These kits are designed with uniformity and standardisation in mind, promising a seamless fit and an uncompromised driving experience. Renault is offering a three-year warranty on the CNG kits to boost the confidence of customers.

Availability and Rollout Strategy

Renault India

Renault's CNG retrofit kits will initially be available in five key states which include Maharashtra, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Gujarat. These states represent around 65% of Renault's market share in India. The company has plans to expand availability across other regions in a phased manner over the coming months.

Potential for Existing Customers

While the CNG kits are currently targeted at new buyers, Renault has yet to clarify whether existing owners will be able to retrofit their vehicles with the newly launched kits. Additionally, there is no confirmation on whether turbocharged engines or automatic variants could receive similar treatment in the future.

Industry Landscape and Competition

Renault India

Renaults move comes at a time when the demand for CNG vehicles is on the rise, driven by high fuel prices and growing environmental concerns. The company joins a competitive segment where Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai and Tata Motors currently lead the market with factory-fitted CNG offerings. Meanwhile, brands like Honda have also begun exploring homologated CNG retrofit solutions.

Official Statement from Renault India

Commenting on the launch, Mr. Venkatram M., Managing Director and Country CEO of Renault India, stated, "Our commitment to innovation and sustainability drives us to continuously improve our offerings. The introduction of government-approved CNG retrofit kits reflects our dedication to providing eco-friendly and intelligent mobility solutions for our customers. We believe this initiative will enhance the accessibility and practicality of Renault cars, strengthening our presence in the Indian market."
