Renault Kiger Launch Delayed to 2021 - Supply Chain is the Issue

Renault India was all set to offer its fourth new product in the Indian market but the launch of the Kiger has been now delayed to 2021. The Covid-19 has hit the market hard and the trade relations have been disturbed. Renault says the compact SUV is ready and launch was set for this festive season but the demand and supply chain is causing the delay. Due to the delay, the launch is slated for early next year after the product unveliing later this year.

Renault India had a great performance last year thanks to the amazing response for the Triber. Moreover, Renault was the only carmaker to post a positive growth in 2019 thanks to the amazing sales of the Triber MPV. Renault was aiming to increase its market share in 2020 with the Kiger (HBC) compact SUV but that may not happen. The COVID-19 has disrupted the functioning of the market and it would take more time to stabilise.

The Renault Kiger is based on the CMF-A+ platform of the brand and will also underpin the Nissan Magnite. The launch of the Nissan Magnite was already delayed to next year and same goes with the Renault Kiger. Talking about the Renault Kiger, it will be a much affordable compact SUV when compared to the Kia Sonet and likes. Renault is expected to plonk in two engines in the Kiger - 1.0-litre 3-cyl naturally aspirated (from the Triber) and 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine.

Renault will leave no stones unturned and will load the Kiger to the brim with features. Speculations suggest that the base price of the Kiger may start from Rs 5.5 lakh which may even undercut some hatchbacks. Till we witness the launch of the Kiger, Renault is aiming to retain its 3% market share with the Kwid and Triber. Renault is working hard and increasing its dealership outlets in Tier-II and Tier-III cities. The Freach marque set up 40 new dealerships and touchpoints between June and September and aiming to increase further this year.
