Iconic Bajaj Chetak's Europe Plans

KTM with its joint venture with Bajaj Auto has rolled out its 1 Millionth bike which happened to be a KTM 390 Adventure at Bajaj Auto's Chakan plant in Maharashtra.

"The E-Chetak especially the second generation, is a great commuter product for a market like Europe. If everything goes as planned, we should be selling this E-scooter in Europe in early 2023. The European marketing season begins in March and we should be ready by then," Stefan Pierer, the chief executive Of Pierer Mobility which owns the KTM told reporters.

Bajaj Chetak- The Underlying Emotional Connect

Since its launch in 1972, Bajaj Chetakhas been a household name for decades. But with upcoming trends of bikes, Chetak was discontinued back in 2006. But, fast forward to October 2019, Bajaj planned to resurrect the Icon from the dead, but now in a more modern electric avatar.

Since its launch, the Bajaj Chetak Electric has sold around 25,000 units and is present in around 40 cities in India. Although it faces tough competition from the likes of TVS iQUBE Electric, Ather 450X Gen 3, and the Ola Electric S1 Pro.

  • To launch in Q1 of 2024
  • KTM to facilitate the launch
  • KTM-Bajaj Auto working in JV from 2007

VERDICT- Bajaj with its Chetak brand name is a very powerful entity, at least in the Indian context. This could very well be seen in the sales number as well. The retro appeal and modern specs of the Chetak Electric could see some decent sales in the European markets as well. Let's wait for 2024 when the launch actually takes place for some concrete data.
