Taking its electric bandwagon forward, Tata Motors is ready with another round of electrified versions of its current ICE range. Taking the first movers advantage, the Indian car maker debuted in the EV space with the Nexon EV. After the Nexon EV's successful run, the company was quick enough to launch the Tigor EV. The Tiago EV launched is the latest and most affordable electric vehicle from the Indian brand. Moving ahead with its three-platform strategy, the carmaker's Tata Passenger Electric Mobility (TPEML) division is all set to introduce the electrified Punch and Altroz.
Upcoming Tata Punch EV and Altroz EV: Details
Unlike the Nexon EV and Tigor EV, the upcoming electrified Punch and Altroz will utilize the EV-specific Sigma architecture. It is a modified version of the ALFA (Agile, Light, Flexible & Advanced) platform which underpins the regular Punch and Altroz. For reference, the original platforms of Nexon EV, Tigor EV, and Tiago EV were modified to accommodate the battery pack and other important electric components.
Talking about the vehicles, the upcoming EVs will follow a similar design direction as the current EV range. Some of the significant EV-specific cosmetic changes include blacked front grille, blue accents inside out, and related badging on the fenders as well as the boot. Under the hood, the familiar Ziptron technology will make its way to the upcoming EVs, combined with an electric motor and a battery pack. The details about the battery pack capacity and power figures are still under wrap. However, if some media reports are to be believed, both the upcoming EVs will come with an electric driving range of around 300-350 kilometers on a single charge.
In terms of pricing, Tata Motors will charge a significant premium for the Punch EV and Altroz EV over their ICE counterparts.
