Tata Motors launched the Tiago EV in India in September 2022 and its deliveries started in early February 2023. However, in the early delivery phase, it was the higher variants of Tiago EV (with the bigger 24kWh battery pack) that were prioritized for delivery. Now the first batch of Tiago EV's base XE variant has started arriving at the showrooms, and thus we also expect the deliveries to commence soon. The Tiago EV's base XE variant comes at a very attractive price of Rs 8.69 lakh ex-showroom, which makes it the most affordable electric car in India. Therefore, here's the first look at the base XE variant of the Tata Tiago EV.
Tata Tiago EV Base XE Variant First Look: Exteriors
The base variant of Tiago EV misses out on exterior elements and features like the body-colored door handles, projector headlamps, DRLs, front fog lamps, ORVM integrated side indicators, rear wiper & wash, full wheel covers, etc. It also misses out on the blacked-out B-pillar. However, it gets body-colored bumpers, a blue-colored humanity line below the front upper grille, front fender-mounted side indicators, and reflector-type halogen headlamps.
Tata Tiago EV Base XE Variant First Look: Interiors
On the inside, the Tata Tiago EV's base variant gets all manual windows, manual adjustable ORVMs, steel wheels with no cover, a front power outlet, flat bottom tilt adjustable electric power steering, climate control auto AC, digital instrument cluster, manual key without remote lock/unlock, etc.
On the connectivity front, it's surprising to see that Tata offers Zconnect-connected car tech even in the base XE variant of the Tiago EV. The Zconnect-connected car tech in the Tiago EV XE variant includes features like Stolen Vehicle Tracking, Valet Mode, Time Fence/Geo-Fence/Over Speed Alert, Door/Lights/Battery/Charging Status, Trip History, Driving Behaviour, Driving Scores Analytics, Find My Car, Share My Location, Find Nearest Charging Station, Navigation, Weather Updates, Check Distance to Empty, etc.
There are also vehicle health-related features like Remote Diagnostics, Alerts for Critical Car Parameters, Car Health Dashboard, Monthly Health Report, Charge Limit Set, etc. Moreover, it also gets remote commands like remote AC On/Off & lights On/Off along with smartwatch integration.

On the safety front, the Tiago EV base XE variant gets dual airbags, ABS with EBD, iTPMS (warning-based), Reverse Park Assist (Audible Signal/Graphic Display), Seat Belt with Pretensioners, Load Limiters and Crash-locking Tongue, etc.
Tata Tiago EV Base XE Variant First Look: Powertrain Specs
Powered by a liquid-cooled IP67 certified 19.2 kWh battery pack, the Tata Tiago EV base XE variant gets a claimed range of 250 km on a single full charge. It gets a permanent magnet synchronous motor producing 61 PS of power and 110 Nm of torque. With this, it can achieve 0-60 km/h speed in 6.2 seconds. Also, it gets 2 driving modes (Sport & City) and 4 regenerative braking levels. For charging, it comes with a 3.3 kW AC Wall Box Charger that can charge it from 10% to 100% in 7 hours.

Verdict: Because of its base XE and second base XT variants, the Tata Tiago EV is the most affordable electric car in India. However, it now has two new rivals in the form of the recently launched Citroen eC3 and the soon-to-launch MG Comet EV.
