Just recently, Ford introduced a new petrol engine in the Everest (Endeavour's competition globally) and we are wondering if the same will come in the Indian spec Endeavour too. We say it because Ford only has a sole 2.0-litre EcoBlue diesel engine as of now. Stay connected with us via our exclusive 91Wheels Ford Whatsapp group!
The 2.3-litre petrol engine, that made its debut with the Everest can be used for Ford Endeavour too. This one makes a total of 271 bhp at 4,400 rpm with 550 Nm of peak torque at 2,000 rpm. It now comes with a 10-speed automatic gearbox as opposed to the 6-speed seen in the 2.0L petrol unit. The discontinued version used to make 244 bhp and 360 Nm of torque.
Coming to the question that whether Ford might bring this petrol engine to the Endeavour? The answer is yes, we expect Ford to bring the unit to Indian shores. This way, the pricing of the SUV might come down and will be a good alternative to the petrol specced Toyota Fortuner. Once the petrol engine is launched, it will also be able to compete with the likes of Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace, Skoda Kodiaq and Honda CR-V.

On the table, it is the petrol Endeavour which is more powerful and torquier than the Fortuner. The former even get a 10-speed automatic gearbox along with 4WD which the petrol engine of the Toyota Fortuner lacks.
We have already talked about if the SUV gets launched in Indian then what are its competition in the petrol department. However, we think that even if they bring in a low-cost petrol engine, the demand will be low. It is because people choosing SUVs from this segment wants high mileage which is easier to run in the long runs.
