Volkswagen Tayron Latest Update
Last Updated on 24th June'24: Exterior:Inspired by other global SUVs from Volkswagen, the new Tayron has a relatively more rounded and crossover-ish appearance than the current Tiguan. The front profile looks sleek with a slim rectangular grille with LED headlamps to its sides and a massive air dam covering much of the front bumper, with triangular air vents on the sides. The side profile of the Tayron is longer than the Tiguan, with the former being 4735mm long, 1859mm wide and 1682mm tall. The Tayron has a raked windscreen with large wraparound LED tail lamps with a connected LED light bar, much like the Tiguan.
Interior and features:Similar to the all-new generation of Tiguan, which is already on sale, the Volkswagen Tayron's cabin layout looks very modern. It has three full-TFT screens: one behind the steering wheel for the instrument console and one touchscreen each in the dashboard's centre console and passenger side for infotainment systems. The China-spec Tayron has a dual-tone white and black interior theme, though the India-spec version will likely get an all-black leather upholstery and theme. The additional features to be offered in the Tayron are level-2 ADAS, powered, heated and ventilation front seats with massage and memory functions, dual-zone automatic climate control, a head-up display and a panoramic sunroof.
Engine and transmission:The India-spec Volkswagen Tayron will get the 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and all-wheel drive system, which is also offered in the Volkswagen Tiguan and Skoda Kodiaq. This engine produces 190 PS of maximum power and 320 Nm of maximum torque but might be tweaked for higher power and torque outputs for the Tayron.
Launch Time:Volkswagen has unveiled the Tayron for the Chinese market and will launch the same SUV in the Indian market with minor tweaks, including different upholstery. Given that it is almost production-ready, the Volkswagen Tayron might soon hit the production floors in India in the first half of 2025 through the CKD route.
Rivals:Arriving as a replacement for the Tiguan, the new Volkswagen Tayron will be a direct rival to the Skoda Kodiaq, Jeep Meridian, Citroen C5 Aircross, and Hyundai Tucson.
Price:The Volkswagen Tiguan is priced at Rs 35.17 lakh, and given that the Tayron will replace it with more tech and larger dimensions, expect the Tayron to be priced between Rs 41-43 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
