Tata Motors has launched the updated Punch in India. The 2024 Punch has received some new features, making it one of the segment's most feature-loaded and value-for-money cars. The carmaker has not provided the sub-compact SUV with any cosmetic changes. Apart from this, the brand has rearranged the whole lineup. The Tata Punch has been locking horns with the Hyundai Exter from the beginning and now with the new features- it just raises the bar in the segment. 2024 Tata Punch Vs Hyundai Exter: Design
In terms of design, the 2024 Tata Punch carries the same muscular design language as the outgoing model. There are no cosmetic changes in the front and rear as well. It features the same projector headlamps, LED DRLs and LED tail lights at the rear. Apart from this, it continues to get the 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, black cladding and roof rails. Speaking of the interiors, you get a similar dashboard layout, leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear knob and body-coloured AC vents.
On the other hand, the Exter has a simple yet modern design. It gets split headlamps, black roof rails, alloy wheels, blacked out B-Pillars, a shark fin antenna and LED tail lights. On the inside, the Exter features a dual tone interior theme and brushed aluminium touch on the inner door handles. Overall, the Exter looks more modern and youthful than the Tata Punch's convention SUV like appearance.
2024 Tata Punch Vs Hyundai Exter: Features
The 2024 Tata Punch comes equipped with a larger 10.25 inch touchscreen infotainment system, automatic headlamps, wireless charging pad and automatic ac. additionally, you get a semi-digital instrument console, rear AC vents and a cooled glovebox as well. On the safety front, you get features such as two airbags, ABS with EBD, reverse camera, ISOFIX child mounts, tyre pressure monitoring system and most importantly 5-start GNCAP safety rating.
The Exter on the other hand gets features such as an 8 inch touchscreen infotainment system, LED DRLs, a semi-digital instrument cluster, connected car technology, wireless charging pad and automatic ac. Additionally, the Exter also offer a dual dashcam and an electric sunroof. In terms of safety, the Exter offers six airbags as standard, ESP, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensor, TPMS, ISOFIX mounts and rain-sensing wipers.
2024 Tata Punch Vs Hyundai Exter: Powertrain
The 2024 Punch continues with the same 1.2 litre, three-cylinder petrol engine that generates 86 PS of power and 113 Nm of torque and comes linked to a 5 speed manual or a 5 speed AMT unit. When running on CNG mode, this powetrain makes 73 PS of power and 103 Nm of torque. The CNG variants get the sole 5 speed manual transmission option.
The Hyundai Exter comes powered by a 1.2 litre NA engine that generates 83 PS of power and 114 Nm. The powerplant comes mated to a 5 speed manual or a 5-speed AMT. Also, there is a CNG iteration that generates 69 PS of power and 95 Nm of torque and comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.
Price Comparison
The 2024 Tata Punch has been launched at a staring price of Rs. 6.13 lakh which goes up to Rs. 10.20 lakh (ex-showroom ) for the top-end model. In comparison, the Hyundai Exter starts at Rs. 6 lakh and goes up to Rs. 10.43 lakh (ex-showroom).

The 2024 Tata Punch and Hyundai Exter are strong contenders in the micro-SUV segment, each with unique strengths. While the Punch impresses with its feature-loaded upgrades, rugged design, and safety rating, the Exter offers modern aesthetics, more standard safety features, and an electric sunroof. Ultimately, choosing between them depends on individual preferences for features, design, and budget.
