Battery And Range: Battery As A Service
The MG Windsor EV comes equipped with a 38 kWh lithium-ion battery developed in-house, delivering 136 PS and 200 Nm of torque to the front wheels. It offers a claimed range of 331 km on a single charge. Early adopters will benefit from a lifetime warranty on the motor, and all customers will have access to free charging at MG eHUB stations. Interestingly, the battery cost is not included in the price of the car and comes as a rental add-on to keep the upfront cost in check.
Variant Recommendation: The variant-wise pricing is still not out and it is not clear how the trim hierarchy will pan out in terms of premium charged. However, if you are on a budget of Rs. 10.00 lakhs, the base variant hits a bull's eye, considering all that it offers along with the humongous space on the inside and the extra large boot space. If you fancy more features, you can climb up the trim tree to treat yourself to extra convenience, which will come at an added cost, but it might be your thing if you plan to keep it for a longer time. Make sure to come back here once the pricing is announced as we will update this section to help you make better selections based on the announced pricing.
Verdict
MG Windsor EV has been launched at Rs. 9.99 lakhs, but without the cost of battery that comes as a unique rental program with lifetime warranty. While this is something that will take a little education on the part of dealerships to offer to the customers, this unique proposition makes the entry variant with a host of modern features, in line with the current segment trends. The pricing for the other 2 higher trims is not yet out and it remains to be seen how these will fare against the competition.
