The Indian sub-compact SUV market is more competitive than ever. Two new strong contenders have been added to the space, the Skoda Kylaq and the Kia Syros. Design
The Skoda Kylaq features a solid, modern design. The front fascia features a butterfly-shaped grille accompanied by LED DRLs at the corners. The Kylaq gets an LED headlamp setup, and the lower bumper gets a silver skid plate, which gives it a very look. At the rear, it features square-shaped LED headlamps connected by a strip with "Skoda" badging on it. On the other hand, the Kia Syros draws its inspiration from the elder sibling, the Kia EV9. It features a similar boxy design with three ice cube LEDs in the headlamps, and L-shaped LED taillamps at the rear. On the side, the Syros rides on 17-inch alloys with flush door handles.
Features
Stepping inside, the Kylaq boasts a feature-rich cabin. However, it has a similar dashboard layout and two-spoke steering wheel from its sibling, Kushaq. In terms of features, Kylaq gets a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment along with an 8-inch digital instrument cluster. Apart from this, it also gets powered and ventilated front seats and a wireless charger for more convenience. When it comes to safety, Kylaq is one of the safest sub-compact SUVs, scoring a five-star rating from Bharat NCAP. Moreover, it is equipped with six airbags and rear parking sensors with cameras, electronic stability control and tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS).
On the Other, the Kia Syros is fully feature-loaded with dual 12.3-inch screens and an 8-speaker Harman Kardon system, along with a small 5-inch touch-enabled screen for AC controls. Additionally, Syros gets a panoramic sunroof and wireless charger. Coming to the safety features, Syros includes six airbags, a 360-degree camera, an electronic parking brake with auto hold function, a tyre pressure monitoring system(TPMS) and a Level 2 ADAS suite.

Powertrain
At the heart, the Skoda Kylaq gets only one turbo-petrol engine option. This 1-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine generates 115 PS of power and 178 Nm of torque. However, Skoda offers two transmission options: a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic unit. In contrast, the Kia Syros gets two engine options borrowed from its siblings, the Kia Sonet. Syros offers a 1.5-litre turbo petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel engine, which belts out 120 PS and 172 Nm of torque and 116 PS and 250 Nm of torque, respectively. However, Kia offers three transmission options: 6-speed manual, 6-speed automatic and 7-speed DCT.

Pricing
Talking about the numbers, the Skoda Kylaq is priced at Rs 7.89 lakh (ex-showroom) for the base variant and goes up to Rs 14.4 lakh (ex-showroom) for the top trim. On the other hand, prices for Kia Syros have not been announced yet. However, it is to be revealed on February 1, stay tuned for the update.

Verdict
Both Skoda Kylaq and Kia Syros bring unique strengths to the table.
