Skoda Kylaq vs Rivals: Dimensions
Dimensions | Skoda Kylaq | Maruti Brezza | Hyundai Venue | Kia Sonet |
Length | 3995 mm | 3995 mm | 3995 mm | 3995 mm |
Width | 1783 mm | 1790 mm | 1770 mm | 1790 mm |
Height | 1619 mm | 1685 mm | 1617 mm | 1610 mm |
Wheelbase | 2566 mm | 2500 mm | 2500 mm | 2500 mm |
Ground Clearance | 189 mm | 198 mm | 195 mm | 205 mm |
Boot Space | 446 L | 328 L | 350 L | 385 L |
Skoda Kylaq shares its platform, MQB-AO-IN, with several cars like the Skoda Kushaq, Slavia, and VW Virtus and Taigun. Despite sharing the same length figures, the Kylaq boasts the best-in-class wheelbase, which is why it offers more boot space and legroom inside. However, its width is narrower, though still better than the Hyundai Venue. This translates to the SUV being suitable for only 2 passengers in the second row, similar to the larger Kushaq.
That said, if you want the most ground clearance, go for the Kia Sonet. If you want the best interior space, then the Maruti Brezza is the better option, as it has the best proportions and a good riding position.
Skoda Kylaq vs Rivals: Engine
The Skoda Kylaq will be offered with the same 1.0L TSI petrol engine, which has been acclaimed for its refinement and performance, despite being a 999cc 3-cylinder engine. This engine was first introduced to India with the legendary Volkswagen Polo and is now available in entry-level Skoda and VW cars.
It produces 115 PS and 178 Nm of torque, with gearbox options of a 6-speed AT and 6-speed MT. This engine has been thoroughly tried and tested, and everyone loves its ability to offer great mileage and performance. Now, it is coming in a smaller car, which means the performance will be even better.
Now, on to rivals powertrain:-
Maruti Brezza - This top selling vehicle in the country is available with petrol and CNG option. 1.5L Smart Hybrid engine produces 103 PS and 136.8 Nm of torque and two gearbox are there: 5MT and 6AT. Talking about its mileage, with manual gearbox, 19.89 km/l and 19.80 km/l with AT. Talking about CNG kit, this car achieves 25.51 km/l of mileage, and only manual geabox option.
The Hyundai Venue and Kia Sonet are essentially the same vehicles with different styling, and both offer the same three engines: a 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol, a 1.0L turbocharged petrol, and a 1.5L diesel. Additionally, both have multiple transmission options, including a 5-speed manual (MT), an intelligent manual transmission (iMT), and a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT).
However, in the Kia Sonet, customers have access to more variants. For example, with the diesel engine, three gearbox options are available: a 6-speed manual (MT), iMT, and a 6-speed automatic (AT).
Skoda Kylaq vs Rivals: Features
In Kylaq, Skoda adds most of the features available in Kushaq and Slavia. However, misses out on several features which its rivals offer. For example, there is no ADAS, panaromic sunroof, 360-parking camera, digital key, and premium sound system. That said, the features are enough to attract people who want all the modern emnities, which include:-
- Wireless charging pad
- Front powered seats (including passengers)
- 10.1 Inch infotainment screen
- 8 Inch digital Infotainment screen
- Front ventilated seats
- Rear ac vents
- USB type C socket (two at the rear)
- Automatic climate control
- Cooled glovebox
- Paddle Shifters
- Reverse parking camera with rear sensors
- Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
- 6 Airbags along with 25 active and passive saftey features
In Kia Sonet and Hyundai Venue, ADAS Level 1 is there, with features like,
- Forward Collision Warning (FCW)
- Forward Collison-Avoidance Assist (FCA)- Car/ Pedestrian/ Cyclist
- Lane Keep Assist (LKA), Lane Following Assist (LFA)
- Lane Departure Warning (LDW)
- High Beam Assist (HBA)
- Driver Attention Warning (DAW)
- Leading Vehicle Departure Alert (LVDA)
Talking about the Maruti Brezza, it lacks ADAS, front ventilated seats, and powered seats. However, it does offer a 360-degree parking camera, a head-up display, a wireless charger, an electric single-pane sunroof, and paddle shifters. From a features perspective, the Brezza is the weakest, as the infotainment screen is small (9 inches) and there is no digital driver's display.
If features is your top priority, only Kia Sonet and Hyundai Venue can satisfy you.

Verdict
The Skoda Kylaq has stepped up to compete in one of the most competitive segments, which is also filled with multiple rivals. While we dont yet know how it drives, from an engineering perspective, its fair to assume that it will perform excellently, given the MQB-AO-IN platform and the 1.0 TSI engine. The Kylaq offers most of the important features, though it does miss out on a few, which may turn off some potential buyers. However, people who purchase a Skoda usually do so for a specific purpose.
