Skoda Kylaq Vs Tata Nexon: Skoda Auto India has unveiled its first compact SUV, the Kylaq in our market. The automaker has kept the pricing strategically lower at Rs. 7.89 lakh (ex-showroom). The respective segment, positioning and pricing put the Kylaq against the top-selling SUV- the Tata Nexon. Skoda Kylaq Vs Tata Nexon: Exterior
The Skoda Kylaq is the first to get the brand's 'Modern Solid' design language. This design language includes a blacked-out butterfly grille and split-design LED headlamps. Other design elements include crystalline LED tail lamps, 17-inch alloy wheels and sharp bodywork with edgy design language.
In comparison, the Tata Nexon looks more SUVish with elements such as a sleeker grille and split design headlamps. Additionally, the Nexon gets an aggressive and sportier look with the presence of Y-shaped LED tail lights, body cladding and 16-inch alloy wheels diamond-cut alloy wheels.
Skoda Kylaq Vs Tata Nexon: Cabin and Features
On the feature front, the Kylaq gets similar features as the Kushaq. It gets a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an 8-inch digital driver's display, automatic climate control, wireless charging, leather upholstery and 6-way power-adjustable ventilated seats. Additionally, it features a decent boot space of 446 litres.
On the other hand, the Nexon SUV features a dual-screen setup which includes a 10.25-inch infotainment display and 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. Other features on offer with the Nexon include wireless charging, ventilated seats (front) and touch AC controls.
Powertrain
The Skoda Kylaq sources its power from a 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine that puts out 114 bhp and 178 Nm. It comes mated to a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission. The automaker has not released any mileage figures yet, but the Kylaq is expected to have an average mileage ranging between 15-18 kmpl.
The Tata Nexon on the other side gets two engine options- a 1.2 litre turbocharged petrol engine that makes 118 bhp of power and 170 Nm of torque and a 1.5 litre diesel engine with 113 bhp and 260 Nm. For transmission duties, there are options of AMT, DCA and a manual gearbox. The Nexon Diesel, paired with AMT provides a mileage of 24.08 km/l.
Price Comparison
The Skoda Kylaq has been unveiled with a starting price tag of Rs. 7.89 lakh (ex-showroom). In comparison, the Tata Nexon starts at Rs. 8 lakh and goes up to Rs. 15.50 lakh. The variant-wise pricing of the Kylaq is yet to come out. So, we have to wait until the launch for the same.

Verdict
The Skoda Kylaq positions itself competitively with a stylish new design and feature-packed cabin, making it a strong contender in the compact SUV space. While the Tata Nexon offers more powertrain options and a sportier aesthetic, the Kylaq brings Skoda's premium appeal at an attractive price point. This rivalry could redefine value in the compact SUV market.
