Back in 2021, Toyota India revealed the new-gen Fortuner in India. The legendary SUV's previous-gen remained on sale for around six years and the new iterations have some much-needed updates inside and out. Though most things remain the same on the outside, you get some added features and mechanical improvements on the new-gen Fortuner. Notably, the existence of the Legender Edition of the SUV started with the introduction of the 2021 Toyota Fortuner. Toyota Fortuner Old Vs New: Design
On the design front, most things are similar to the previous gen Fortuner, there are some notable cosmetic changes in the front fascia. The new-gen Toyota Fortner features a wider front grille with a nominal chrome treatment which is less than the outgoing model. Other notable changes include new LED headlamps, signature LED DRLs, 18-inch alloy wheels, LED taillights and a faux skid plate. In addition to this, the sportier Legender Edition features a vertical split grille with a glossy black treatment, sequential LED turn signal, different alloy wheels, full LED headlamps and DRLs.

However, the old Toyota Fortuner used to offer a decent set of features, the new-gen model adds more to the list. Though crucial features such as dual-zone automatic climate control, electrically adjustable front seats, semi-digital instrument cluster and a 4.2 inch multi-functional MID were already available with the previous-gen model. The new 2021 model adds amenities such as an 8 inch infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, connected features such as geo-fencing, real-time tracking and vehicle location. The features list doesn't ends here, you now also get ventilated seats, front clearance sonar, wireless phone charging (Legender), driving modes- Sport, Normal and Eco and much more.
Toyota Fortuner Old Vs New: Powertrain
Mechanically, the new model carries the same engine options- a 2.7 litre petrol and 2.8 litre diesel unit. The diesel unit on offer has been retuned to produce 27 bhp and 40 Nm more and it now makes around 201 bhp and 500 Nm of torque. The petrol engine on the other hand generates 164 bhp of power and 245 Nm of torque and comes paired with a five speed manual gearbox or a six-speed automatic transmission. The transmission options for the diesel unit include a six speed automatic transmission and a six-speed manual gearbox.
Please note that the diesel unit when mated with a 6 speed manual gearbox generates 201 bhp and 420 Nm. While the 4X4 configuration is still on offer with the diesel variant, you also get auto limited slip differential and lockable differential as a new addition. All in all, the new-gen Fortuner has received some worthy mechanical upgrades, making it a more powerful and off-road capable vehicle.
Price Details
The 2021 Toyota Fortuner currently starts at Rs. 33.43 lakh and goes up to Rs. 51.44 lakh for the top-end GR-S Autamatic variant. Usually, buyers get the Toyota Fortuner delivered in the period of 12-13 weeks after booking, but you might have to wait for longer periods in some cases.
