Toyota Fortuner Engine Specifications

Two powertrain options are available with the Toyota Fortuner: a 2.7L petrol engine and a 2.8L turbocharged diesel engine. Both are tremendously powerful and highly reliable. Additionally, they are available in both 2WD and 4WD drivetrains. The diesel engine with the 6-speed sequential gear shift delivers 500 Nm of torque, and 420 Nm with a manual transmission. Also, this is the same engine used in the Toyota Hilux. Let's check out the details in the table below.

The base model of the Toyota Fortuner costs Rs 33.43 lakh ex-showroom and comes with a 2WD system. In comparison with the diesel models, it is Rs 2 lakh cheaper and has slightly fewer features. It is best for people who have less commute and rarely take it off-road. The mileage of this engine is poor, but it is very smooth and has significantly fewer vibrations than the diesel one. Check out the features Toyota adds in this variant.

4X2 Petrol AT

The 4X2 Petrol AT is one of the highest-selling Toyota Fortuner models. Opting for the 6-speed automatic is a smart choice, considering its smooth gear shifts and the ease it provides when driving such a large vehicle. Buying a manual could turn into a nightmare, especially for city driving, because the Fortuner already offers a raw feel and comes with a hydraulic steering wheel, which is weighty. Managing a hefty steering wheel along with a manual gearbox will deteriorate the fun of driving this SUV.

To get 4X2 Petrol AT, Toyota asks for Rs 35.02 lakh before taxes, and there is no 4X4 option with the petrol engine. Moreover, there is no difference in features between the manual and automatic variants.

The asking price of the 4X2 Diesel manual is Rs 35.93 lakh ex-showroom. Now, let's check the features Toyota has added over the petrol models.

Discover roads less traveled and find routes even Google Maps can't locate with the help of the 4X4 drivetrain, which is available with High (H4) and Low (L4) Range gears and lockable differentials. Owners are often seen on mountain peaks or crossing rivers just for fun. Also, if you're not fond of off-roading, you can use 4X4 on highways and experience unmatched grip on the wheels.

Verdict

The Toyota Fortuner will go down in the history of Indian automobiles as a pinnacle figure, loved for its performance, road presence, and reliability. Yes, it is way behind when it comes to features compared to rivals like the MG Gloster and Jeep Meridian, but people who purchase it dont really care about that. However, it is rumored that the Fortuner will get a generation update next year, and we can expect this car to include all the features that are missing in the current model.
