The Apache RTR 160 comes with a range of features that elevate its appeal. These include LED headlamps with LED DRLs, an LED taillight, and a race-inspired digital MID. It offers three drive modes: Urban Mode, Rain Mode, and Sports Mode. Additionally, it features the SmartXonnect app, which provides information about your bike and includes tech features such as turn-by-turn navigation, low-fuel warning assist, lean angle mode, and crash alert.

In the Honda SP 160, you'll also get full LED headlights and taillights along with a digital MID, similar to the one found in the bigger Honda CB 300R. Additionally, the top model features dual disc brakes and monoshock suspension. This bike is also equipped with single-channel ABS, just like the Apache.

The difference between the features of the two motorcycles is quite minimal. If one bike has an extra feature, the other compensates with something else. For example, the Apache has drive modes, while the SP 160 does not. However, the SP 160 comes with a monoshock suspension, whereas the Apache has a MIG suspension. On the other hand, the Apache features the SmartXonnect app but is Rs 5,000 to 6,000 costlier than the Honda.

Which one you should buy?

The person opting for the Apache RTR 160 should expect a spirited performance from this motorcycle. It offers an intermediate experience akin to a real sports bike. With a mileage of 55 to 60 kmpl, it is suitable for everyday commuting. However, regarding its design, there is an issue: TVS has used the same body frame for over 14 years. Despite updates like LED lights, it now feels quite outdated.

Honda SP 160 is an bigger version of Honda SP 125, and an upgraded version of Honda Unicorn which also uses the same engine. The SP 160 is far more reliable motorcycle than Apache, and its a new bike launched in 2023. The design feels fresh and the overall build quality is fantastic. Plus the best part is its smooth engine which has enough punch and can achieve 55 kmpl above mileage.

Verdict

Both motorcycles offer punchier performance and good mileage. However, the SP 160, with its higher torque, behaves similarly to diesel cars. It excels in the low and mid-range RPMs but loses power at higher RPMs. On the other hand, the Apache has consistently proven itself, and this RTR 160 serves as an entry into the hardcore racing bikes offered under the Apache name in higher models.

Therefore, if you're seeking a reliable, good-looking commuter bike with solid performance, I would recommend choosing Honda. The Apache, while reliable, has been around for quite some time and is overdue for an update.
