2020 Mahindra Thar Off-Roading In Diesel Automatic

There's no doubt that the iconic 2020 Mahindra Thar has grabbed everyone's eyeballs with its stunning design and new engines. There's a saying that in our off-road enthusiast group that the Thar hates Tar and to find that out we have the 2020 Mahindra Thar in diesel automatic to test all its off-roading capabilities.

Yes, the location is Oraz which is based in Gurugram and here we test the 2020 Mahindra Thar in its diesel automatic form and check its off-roading capabilities.

Right from checking the articulation to playing in the slush, we performed everything in the 4H which is also known as the 4 High. We did not switch to 4L as the new Thar didn't require that at all. It just works perfectly in the 4H. By the way, 4L basically locks the speed up to a certain limit but delivers a good amount of torque. That helps the SUV to get out from a really bad patch.

The new Thar has not only improved in its styling and features part but in the off-roading department too. On paper, the approach angle is slightly lower at 41.8 degrees than the previous Thar which was at 44 degrees but it does make up for the ramp over and departure angle.

Yes, the new Thar gets a ramp over angle of 27 degrees and departure angle sticks to 36.8 degrees which is a lot than the previous generation model. Also, if you are someone who drives their SUV where there is loads of slush and water, then the water wading capacity of 650 mm will be quite useful to you. Earlier, these figures were 500 mm only.

Sharing the specs of this diesel automatic in which we performed all the 4x4 stunts then it gets a 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel engine which makes as much as 130 hp with a peak torque of 300 Nm. Both the manual and the AT gets a 6-speed unit.

Furthermore, we have also done a fuel economy run on the Mahindra Thar and there we used a 6-speed manual version with the diesel. It delivered us an authentic figure of 17 km/l and for that, you can check out the video above. Yes, the new Thar can take you to several off-roading expeditions but also take care of family needs when you need some highway cruising.
