With the rise in fuel prices, buyers and even carmakers are shifting their interest toward EVs. However, the initial cost of ownership of an electric vehicle is quite high so CNG comes into play. CNG is cheaper than petrol and diesel, it is environmentally friendly and several carmakers are planning to expand their portfolio with this alternative fuel option. In this article, we share the list of the top 5 upcoming CNG SUVs.
Maruti Brezza
Maruti has a long list of S-CNG cars and hopefully their popular SUV, Brezza too will soon join the clan. The 2022 Brezza is expected to be launched in May and with that, we expect the carmaker to bring the CNG Brezza too in the market. Under the hood, it'll get a new 1.5L DualJet petrol motor and the power and torque figures are expected to be 87 bhp and 121.5 Nm respectively with the CNG. Like the Ertiga, this too will be available in two variants - VXI and ZXI. Do expect a price bump of Rs 1 lakh over the manual counterparts.

Tata Punch
Tata's mini SUV, Punch was launched last year and since then, it is climbing up the sales chart. It is a popular SUV in both urban and rural areas. We expect Punch CNG to be launched later this year and it'll generate the same specs as the Tata Tiago. Like the Tiago, we expect Punch CNG to be available in all variants. Tata Punch CNG is expected to cost Rs 95,000 more than the petrol versions.
Tata Nexon
Tata Nexon is the only compact SUV that is available in petrol, diesel and EV. Coming towards the Nexon CNG then the SUV has been spotted on Indian roads a couple of times but there's no official news of the launch. We do expect that Tata Nexon CNG will be launched later this year. It'll get the same 1.2L, three-cylinder turbo petrol engine but the power and torque figures will be detuned.
Kia Sonet
Kia Sonet CNG was recently spied on the Indian roads. Mechanically, the Sonet CNG will be powered by the 1.0L turbo petrol engine. Unlike the petrol that gets a 6-speed iMT and 7-speed DCT as an option, we believe that the Sonet CNG will be mated to a proper 6-speed stick shift. The power and torque figures are yet unknown but do expect a 10-15% decline in both. As far as prices for the Sonet CNG are concerned then do expect an increase of Rs 80,000 to Rs 90,000 over the petrol versions.

Hyundai Venue
Hyundai Venue has been in the Indian market for close to three years now and the carmaker is now gearing up for the launch of an all-new version of the compact SUV. We expect the new Venue to be launched in June this year and the CNG version in July. Like the Sonet, Venue CNG too will be available with the 1.0L turbo petrol engine option.
