- Tata has recently launched 2023 updated Safari & Harrier with ADAS tech
- The ADAS-equipped Mahindra XUV700 is the direct rival of the Tata Safari
- Here's all the difference between the ADAS tech in Tata Safari/Harrier and Mahindra XUV700
Tata Safari and Harrier have become the first models from Tata Motors to get advanced ADAS tech. Tata recently launched the 2023 updated models of Safari & Harrier with many new and advanced features. These include a 10.24-inch large touchscreen infotainment system, a 7-inch digital driver's display with added features, electrically adjustable front seats with memory function, a 360-degree view camera system, etc. But the most interesting addition in both the Tata SUVs was the much-awaited ADAS tech. ADAS, for the uninitiated stands for advanced driver assistance system.
Tata says that the ADAS tech has been calibrated according to Indian conditions & is built to take on surprises. On the other hand, Mahindra XUV700, which is the main rival to the Tata Safari, has already established itself in the segment as an advanced SUV equipped with accurate, reliable, and consistent ADAS tech. Though both SUVs claim of having the best ADAS tech in the segment, there are some major hardware & feature differences between the ADAS system of Safari & XUV700. Here are all the differences between the ADAS tech of the two SUVs.
Tata Safari VS Mahindra XUV700: ADAS Hardware Differences
Both the Tata Safari and Mahindra XUV700 offer a radar + camera-based ADAS system which is considered more accurate, reliable, and consistent than the camera-based ADAS available in some cars. But the difference lies in the number of radars. The Mahindra XUV700 gets just one radar placed in the middle of the front lower grill of the vehicle. On the other hand, Tata Safari gets a total of 3 radars. One radar is placed in the middle of the front lower grill. The other two are placed on both corners of the rear bumper.
The three-radar setup of the Tata Safari enables some of the advanced ADAS features like rear-cross traffic alert/auto braking, rear blind spot warning, rear collision warning, etc. This is missing on the Mahindra offering. However, when it comes to ADAS hardware for the front side of the vehicle, both Tata Safari and Mahindra XUV700 are equally equipped with one radar sensor and one front-facing camera.
Tata Safari VS Mahindra XUV700: ADAS Feature Differences
Although Tata Safari/Harrier has more radars than Mahindra XUV700, Tata has not provided the most useful ADAS features like adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist in the Safari & Harrier. Both of these features are usually the most commonly used ADAS features. We hope going forward, Tata Motors will introduce these features to complete the ADAS suite.
As Safari & Harrier have all the hardware required for adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist, there stands a possibility that Tata might add these two ADAS features in Safari/Harrier at a later stage through software updates. Other than these two ADAS features, both Tata Safari/Harrier and Mahindra XUV700 get all other ADAS features like front collision warning, auto emergency braking, lane departure warning, auto high beam assist, etc.
