Hyundai Exter Hy-CNG EX Variant

Hyundai Exter CNG was launched in India last year in 2024 and now, Hyundai has introduced a more budget-friendly variant of the Exter Hy-CNG Duo, priced from Rs. 7.51 lakh (ex-showroom). Built on the base EX trim, this new option is nearly Rs. 1 lakh cheaper than the previous starting price, making the Hy-CNG Duo significantly more accessible to a wider audience. Until now, the Exter Hy-CNG Duo was limited to the S, SX, and SX Knight trims. By expanding the lineup to include the EX trim, Hyundai has brought its innovative dual-cylinder technology to a broader customer base. This move enhances the appeal of the Exter in the competitive compact SUV segment. The Exter Hy-CNG Duo now goes head-to-head with Tata Motors Punch CNG, which was the first to bring dual-cylinder technology to the sub-4 meter SUV

Inside, the EX trim keeps things simple with a no-frills interior. It features a 4.2-inch semi-digital instrument cluster, manual air conditioning, height adjustment for the drivers seat, front power windows, LED taillights, and keyless entry, 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, and rear parking sensors, halogen headlamps, LED tail lights, body-coloured bumpers, and rides on 14-inch steel wheels, sticking to its base set-up. However, with its dual CNG tank set-up, the boot space is usable and pretty decent.

Powertrain

The newly introduced EX variant of the Hyundai Exter is powered by a 1.2-litre dual-cylinder CNG engine, delivering 69 PS of power and 95 Nm of peak torque. This setup is paired with a 5-speed manual transmission, offering an efficient and practical driving experience for those looking for an economical and eco-friendly option.
As for the pricing, the Hyundai Exter starts at Rs. 6 lakhs ex-showroom and goes all the way up to Rs. 10 lakhs, but you do get an affordable entry to the CNG variant at Rs. 7.51 lakhs.
Verdict
The move to introduce a more affordable variant of the Exter only makes sense as the rivals are getting pretty robust with timely updates and an easy entry point only makes it easier for the South Korean micro-SUV. As for the brand, since Tata Punch stood as the largest selling model in 2024, there is potential in the segment that needs to be cahsed in, just in time.
