- Tata has revealed the Altroz Racer edition at the 2023 auto expo
- If launched, will compete with the Hyundai i20 N-Line
- The performance hatch gets a plethora of new features
Since Maruti Suzuki & Volkswagon have discontinued the Baleno RS and Polo respectively, the only performance hatch that remains in the market is the Hyundai i20 N-Line. But, Tata has finally showcased a real rival to the Korean brand in form of Altroz Racer at the 2023 auto expo. Compared to the on-sale Altroz iTurbo, the Altroz Racer gets more power, more torque, and more features. Tata is seriously considering the market launch of this performance hatch soon, and if it does so, a lot of confusion awaits the buyers. Well, no worry as we declutter every difference between the two hot hatches and compare them thoroughly.

Tata has added a number of new features to the Altroz Racer. The premium hatchback now gets a smart voice-activated sunroof, inbuilt air purifier, wireless smartphone charging, 6 airbags, front seat ventilation, a new and large 7-inch TFT drivers display, a new 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen with new UI/Software. Also, there's a big possibility that tata might add some more features like the electronic stability program, traction control, auto-dimming IRVM, and 360-degree view camera to this performance hatch at the time of its market launch. Here's a detailed comparison based on the feature list of both vehicles.

What's More In Hyundai i20 N-Line:
Though there are a number of features that are common in both hot hatches like rear AC vents, a dual-clutch automatic option, a cooled glovebox, auto fold ORVM, auto climate control, etc, the i20 N-Line gets some unique features unavailable in Altroz Racer. These are paddle shifters (only in DCT), Hyundai's next-gen bluelink-connected car tech with advanced functions like remote AC on/off, and smartwatch integration.
Safety:
On the safety front, the Altroz remains unbeatable as it is the only hatchback in India with 5 Star safety rating from G-NCAP. However, Hyundai offers more safety tech like electronic stability control, hill assist, Highline TPMS, and all-wheel disc brakes in the i20. The i20 on the other hand gets just 3 Star safety rating from G-NCAP. Also, Tata may add some of the missing safety features like ESP, traction control, hill assist, and 360-degree view camera during the market launch of the Altroz Racer.
Verdict: Both the hot hatches are equipped neck to neck. Both have some unique features. Now, it all depends on Tata's pricing strategy for the Altroz Racer. If Tata manages to undercut the Hyundai i20 N-Line, it would make the Altroz Racer more value for money and a sensible choice for buyers who desire a performance hatch in the market.
