Hyundai has been reportedly planning to launch a new hybrid SUV soon. Once launched, the upcoming SUV will rival the Tata Safari, Toyota Innova Hycross and Mahindra XUV700 in India. Whereas some other automakers such as Tata Motors and Toyota are competing well with the Mahindra, Hyundai still has no concrete answer for the Mahindra's SUV dominance. Even though the brand has the Alcazar SUV in its India portfolio, it is becoming hard for it.

Hyundai Upcoming Hybrid SUV
As mentioned above, the brand is planning to position the upcoming hybrid SUV where some top-selling SUVs stand which include Mahindra XUV700 and Tata Harrier. Apart from this, it will also go against the Innova Hycross because it is a hybrid SUV. Internally named Ni1i, Hyundai's upcoming SUV will cater to both SUV and hybrid categories in India. It will be manufactured in the brand's latest facility located at Talegaon.
It is expected that the brand will position the hybrid SUV below Tucson and above the recently launched Alcazar facelift. The upcoming hybrid SUV project could be a game-changer for the brand, providing it with an identity in the segment. Rumours are suggesting that the upcoming SUV will be based on the Tucson Long Wheelbase which is currently on sale in China. Taking note of the reports, we can expect the hybrid SUV to offer a more spacious cabin than the Alcazar.
To Become Hyundai's First-Ever Hybrid SUV
Once launched, the upcoming petrol hybrid SUV will become the brand's first hybrid car in India. Although the brand offers a hybrid setup with the Tucson SUV internationally, there is no such option on offer with the India spec model. The upcoming SUV is expected to source its power from a 1.5 litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. Also, there are expectations that Kia will also launch its version of the same after the Hyundai.
