MG Motor India might be upto something very unique, as according to its latest teaser, it is going to add a pothole detection system to its cars. This is going to be the first time such technology is going to be seen in India, and given the state of most of our roads, it makes complete sense. However, the timing of the teaser is very interesting, given that it has come out just one day before April Fools.

MG Motor India Adding Pothole Detection; Details

While not many details are known about the technology that will be offered, MG Motor India has spilled out some small details. In the latest teaser, the car maker says that its system will make use of cameras and sensors to detect and help avoiding potholes. The car maker says this system will work even at higher speeds.

MG also says that owners will be able to update the ADAS system on their cars, by sending step-by-step instructions in their DMs. In order to receive these instructions, one will just need to comment 'Pothole' in the comments section of the teaser. This likely suggests that the new feature will be added via OTA updates.

As for which cars from MG's lineup will receive this update, there really is no telling, but we suspect that the cars sold under the premium division will be among the first few, such as the upcoming Cyberster and M9, and it could also potentially trickle down to cars like the ZS EV, Gloster and the Hector.
Of course, this system is not going to be as sophisticated as the one on the Tesla Model S and Model X. These cars come with an air suspension, and their system utilizes Tesla's connected car network on the road to identify potholes and other rough road conditions on the go. The car will then adjust the air suspension accordingly for a smoother, more comfortable ride experience.

The timing of these teaser posts is rather interesting, as they have been posted just a day before April Fools, which is making us think whether or not this could be an April Fools prank by the car maker. At the time of writing this story, we were awaiting answers from our sources, and we shall update you as soon as possible.
Verdict
UPDATE: As it turns out, this was indeed a prank by the car maker, and while there are ADAS systems that make use of a connected network to detect and inform users of potholes and rough conditions, such technology is yet to be developed mass-market cars. However, MG Motor India is taking an initiative, asking people to share pictures of any pothole they come across to either info@groundreality.org, or on 8147684653.
