If you read my review of the Kia Carnival, you will see how impressed I was with this mammoth. It seems to be the perfect upgrade for current Innova customers and this is exactly the reason why Kia managed to get 1,410 confirmed bookings with 24 hours. This figure, for a vehicle that will be priced around Rs 30 lakh (on-road) is shocking. In a good way!
The Kia Carnival is a luxury MPV that will be available in four seating configurations. With three trims on offer, Kia is trying to cater to a wider audience. But guess what? The company claims as many as 64% of the bookings are for the top-spec Limousine version and this trim comes loaded with features to the brim. Ever heard about dual sunroof, three zone climate control, ventilated and powered driver's seat et al on an MPV? And the party trick is the motorized rear doors that make level oh-so-easy for customers.
Kia Carnival bookings will remain open for a while and deliveries will start in the first week of February. On the 5th of the same month, the company will disclose the pricing. With the top end Innova currently sitting at Rs 23 lakh (ex-showroom), its fair to assume that the Kia Carnival range will start at around the same mark. That will be for the base Premium - ignore the word 'base' and even this comes with enough features to make the Innova look less equipped!
And then there is the engine. It is a smaller unit as compared to the Innova's but offers 33% more power and 28% higher torque. It also makes use of a better, 8-speed automatic and comes with a full safety kit of electronics to keep you in control when you want to go quicker. Other highlights are the refinement and NVH levels which ensure the cabin remains a peaceful place, even at triple digit speeds. The Carnival will be Kia's second offering for India and seems all set to enjoy the same success as the Seltos mid-size SUV. Interested in this mini lux bus?
