In a significant move, Kia has decided to discontinue some variants of its three popular models: the Sonet, Seltos, and Carens. The manufacturer not only discontinued but also added a few variants to the list. Which variants have been discontinued? Which new variants have been added? Kia Sonet - HTK+(O) - Rs 10.49 Lakh
The Kia Sonet's variant lineup gets a new trim, HTK+(O), which sits between the HTK(O) and HTX trims. However, the HTK+(O) gets some additional features over the HTK(O) trim, which include 16-inch alloy wheels, LED headlamps and taillamps, leather-wrapped steering and seats, wireless charger, dashcam with dual camera, push-button start, fully automatic AC and a rear wiper. Additionally, Kia has discontinued the Gravity Edition for Sonet and stopped selling the diesel version with iMT.
Furthermore, Kia has stopped selling diesel versions paired with the iMT, So, the diesel engine is left with only a 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission while, the rest of the options remain the same.
Kia Seltos - Three New Variants
In the Kia Seltos, only the mid-spec HTX variant came with a diesel iMT option, which has been discontinued now. Just like Sonet, the Gravity Edition for Seltos has also been discontinued. However, Seltos has received three new trims: HTK(O), HTK+(O) and HTX(O). The HTK(O) variant sits above the HTK trim, which includes some of the additional features such as a dual-pane sunroof, 16-inch alloys, Cruise control and Ambient lighting.
Moreover, the HTK+(O) variant sits above the HTK+ in the lineup and gets some additional features, including 17-inch alloys, auto-fold mirrors, electronic parking brakes, traction control and paddle shifters. The Kia Seltos will continue to offer the same three engine options. However, the transmission options are limited to 6-speed manual, 7DCT, 6iMT, 6AT and IVT.

Kia Carens - Prestige Plus (O) - Rs 16.34 Lakh
In the Kia Carens, the manufacturer has discontinued the diesel iMT variant. Additionally, the Luxury trim has been removed from the lineup. The 7-speed DCT with a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine will now be offered with a new variant, the Prestige Plus (O), along with the existing Luxury Plus and X-line trims. The X-line trim was previously available with both the turbo petrol DCT and diesel AT. Unlike the Sonet and Seltos, the Carens Gravity Edition continues to be on sale.

Verdict
Kia's recent move to discontinue some of the variants of their Seltos, Sonet and Carens lineup marks a significant move. While some trims like Gravity Edition were phased out. The addition of trims such as HTK+(O) in the Sonet and Seltos provides more options with valuable features, offering a more refined driving experience. However, the discontinuation of the diesel iMT variants and the Luxury trim in the Carens might limit choices for some customers.
