The Kia Sonet is one of the best selling compact SUVs in the Indian market and takes on the rivals like the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger, Tata Nexon, and the Mahindra XUV300. Having said this, the Sonet is available with three engine options - 1.2-L NA Petrol, 1.0-L Turbo Petrol, and a 1.5-L Diesel engine. With demand for CNG vehicles rising in the market, the Korean carmaker is also considering launching the Sonet CNG in the market. The Kia Sonett CNG was recently spied testing in India and here are all the details that you should know.
With Maruti Suzuki now planning to introduce the CNG variants of the Brezza in India, Kia is also expected to launch the Sonet CNG in near future. Having said this, the Kia Sonet CNG spied images reveal that the car may get the 1.0-L T-GDI engine and not the standard 1.2-L NA petrol motor. In its standard iteration, this engine churns out 118 bhp and 172 Nm of peak torque. In the CNG version, this engine is expected to be offered with a 6-speed manual or an iMT gearbox.

The spied images also reveal that the test mule was a top end, GT model that comes heavily loaded with a long list of features and cosmetic updates that make it exclsuive when compared to other lower spec versions. However, the brand is yet to comment on the launch of the Sonet CNG or the varaint options on offer. The Kia Sonet CNG price is expected to be around Rs 70-90 thousand more when compared to the standard iterations of the car. Hyundai is also expected to launch the Venue CNG in the coming months.
A number of brands including Maruti Suzuki, Tata, Hyundai, and Kia are working on expanding the CNG line-up in the country and we saw a number of VFM and feature-rich CNG cars being launched in the country including the Tata Tiago CNG, Tata Tigor CNG, Maruti Ertiga CNG, and more.
