Next-Gen Kia Seltos: Major Upgrades In Sight

kia seltos

The next-gen Kia Seltos has been spied on multiple occasions in the past revealing some key details about its aesthetic upgrades. I feel that the current model of the Seltos is one of the most attractive compact SUVs that are in the space right now, striking all the right chords. But the new spy shots reveal that the front facia is getting a bit more aggressive with LED headlamps set up with sharp LED DRLs coming into play, hinting at an even more attractive exterior. The cuts and creases are being revamped along with a refreshed bumper design and fog-lamp assembly.

Although the silhouette feels familiar in dimensions, the styling is going to be a distinctive departure from the current model with new alloys, tail lamps, and new lower bumpers, more in line with the latest design philosophy of the brand. However, we will have to wait until we spot a test mule with fewer wrappings for a more accurate analysis. But for now, this is all you get. The interiors were missing this time, but with the details extracted from earlier spy shots, the interior is going for a major overhaul as well.

The interior of the upcoming Kia Seltos is expected to draw inspiration from the Kia EV3, showcasing similar seat designs, door trims, and headrests. The second row will feature dual-tone seats, adding a vibrant touch to the cabin. Although the dashboard and cockpit are still under wraps, the new Seltos is anticipated to have a revamped dashboard layout. Ambient lighting is also likely to be included, enhancing the cabin ambiance, along with a redesigned steering wheel featuring a new two-spoke design instead of the current three-spoke unit.

Engine Details: Hybrid On The Cards!

While the new-gen Seltos will retain the current powertrain options, its highlight lies in the potential 1.6L petrol hybrid engine option shared with the Hyundai Kona. This setup would feature a 1.6-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine paired with a 32 kW electric motor, resulting in a combined output of around 140bhp and 265 Nm of torque. Kia is also exploring the possibility of an electronic all-wheel-drive system for the Seltos Hybrid, which would utilize the electric motor to drive the rear wheels. This initiative is part of Kia's larger strategy to introduce nine hybrid models by 2028 and address the shifting demand for pure electric vehicles.

This model is set to enter production somewhere around August 2025 and a global unveil soon after that However, for India, it is slated to launch in early 2026.

Verdict

The next-generation Kia Seltos is poised to gain a significant advantage with the introduction of a petrol-hybrid variant. This strategic move will not only elevate the Seltos' competitiveness within the segment, allowing it to directly challenge rivals like the Maruti Grand Vitara, but also address the growing demand for fuel-efficient vehicles. Furthermore, by offering a hybrid option, Kia can extend the vehicle's lifespan up to 15 years, surpassing the 10-year limit imposed on diesel vehicles in certain regions, making it a more sustainable and long-term investment for consumers.
