New Triumph 400cc Bike: Is It a Thruxton 400?
Recently, a test mule based on the Speed 400 was spotted in the UK. The spied-on bike had a cafe racer fairing. The possibilities and rumours began globally, quoting that this might be called 'Thruxton 400'. In a media interaction, Mr Rajiv Bajaj has now confirmed that Triumph India is eyeing to add another 400cc bike to its portfolio. The immense success of the Scrambler 400X and the Speed 400 has resulted in this decision.
Speaking of this upcoming model, it'll be based on the current 400cc platform. The spotted test bike had a semi-fairing like a proper cafe racer. It was equipped with a round LED headlight, bar-end mirrors, and a slightly forward-set riding position. The rear profile looked more or less like the Speed 400.
As the platform will be the same, the engine sharing and hardware sharing will be evident on it. The test bike spotted had the same 399cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine. It produces a peak power output of 39.5 bhp and 37.5 Nm of peak torque. Other details include 17-inch alloy wheels, blacked-out engine and exhaust parts, USD front forks, and adjustable rear monoshock suspension.
Feature-wise, it'll get LED lights, a semi-digital instrument console with USB charging, dual-channel ABS, slipper-assist clutch, and more. The new 400cc bike can possibly launch before the year-end in India. It might become the range-topping 400cc model from Triumph and hence its pricing can be expected around Rs. 3 lakh (ex-showroom).
Verdict
Triumph's game in the Indian market has taken a complete 180-degree turn with the 400cc bikes. Both models are selling in good numbers and offer an affordable performance setup. The newer model will expand the portfolio and help increasing the market share.
