Best Electric Scooters With High Range For Inter-City Commutes

Scooters are becoming bigger, better and more powerful lately, and with electric scooters becoming increasingly popular, there is this curiosity around them; whether or not they can handle longer distances, or inter-city commutes, and whether their battery packs deliver in terms of the range promised or not.

Ola S1 Pro+

The Ola S1 Pro+ comes with the highest claimed range on offer; with the 5.3kWh battery pack on offer, the S1 Pro+ claims to run for 320km on a single charge, while also reaching a claimed top speed of 141kmph. Meanwhile the 4kWh battery pack comes with a claimed range of 242km on a single charge, while reaching a top speed of 123kmph.

Both scooters come with a larger, mid-mount electric motor that produces a peak output of 17.4bhp. However, while the 5.3kWh variant comes with a kerb weight of 118kg, the 4kWh variant weighs just 2kg lesser. Both scooters come equipped with four ride modes, a 7-inch touch screen, navigation, music streaming, digital key, regen braking, cruise control and more. Prices range between Rs 1.54 lakh to Rs 1.69 lakh (ex-showroom).

Simple One Gen 1.5

The Simple One recently got the Gen 1.5 update. Equipped with a 5.0kWh battery pack, the Simple One delivers a claimed range of 248km on a single charge, while reaching a claimed top speed of 105kmph. Its electric motor packs in 11.3bhp and 72Nm of torque.

In terms of features, the Simple One packs in built-in turn-by-turn navigation, customizable instrument cluster themes with automatic brightness adjustment, a tyre-pressure monitoring system, OTA updates, ride modes, remote access, and a vehicle finder among other things. Prices begin from Rs 1.66 lakh (ex-showroom).

Ultraviolette Tesseract

The Tesseract is the newest entrant in this list, and it comes from the house of Ultraviolette. While it was available at an introductory price of Rs 1.20 lakh, prices have now gone up to Rs 1.45 lakh (all prices ex-showroom). There are three battery pack options on offer the 3.5kWh variant with 162km on a single charge, the 5kWh variant with 220km on a single charge, and the 6kWh variant with 261km on a single charge.

The Tesseract comes with a maxi-scooter design, and in terms of features, it gets two traction control modes, four-level regen, dual-channel ABS, hill hold, a 7-inch TFT screen with on-board navigation, and a wireless smartphone charger among other things.

Ather 450X

The Ather 450X has been around for quite many years now, offering the kind of performance and usability one can experience from a conventional petrol scooter. With the 3.7kWh battery pack, the Ather 450X offers a claimed range of 161km on a single charge, while reaching a claimed top speed of 90kmph. The belt-driven motor produces 8bhp and 26Nm of torque.

The Ather 450X comes equipped with features such as a 7-inch TFT touch screen, Google Maps navigation, online document storage, magic twist regen, multi-mode traction control, tow and theft alerts, WhatsApp connectivity, calls and music settings, and self-cancelling indicators among other things. Prices for the Ather 450X 3.7kWh begin from Rs 1.59 lakh (ex-showroom).

Bajaj Chetak 3501

The Bajaj Chetak has been continuously been refined over the years, and with latest 35 Series, it has gotten better. The Chetak comes with a new frame with a new 3.5kWh battery pack placed under the floorbaord, freeing up 35-litres of underseat storage space.

It retains the 4.8kWh motor, which pushes it to a claimed top speed of 73kmph, and the larger battery pack gives it a claimed range of 153km on a single charge. In terms of features, it comes equipped with a touch screen TFT cluster, integrated maps navigation, music streaming, call/SMS alerts, online document storage, and customizable themes. Additionally, it also comes with two ride modes, hill-hold, and follow me-headlamps among a few other things. Prices begin from Rs 1.27 lakh (ex-showroom).

TVS iQube ST 5.1kWh

The iQube ST is the range-topping variant in the lineup, and as evident by its name, it comes with a 5.1kWh battery pack, which gives it a claimed range of 150km on a single charge, and it reahes a claimed top speed of 82kmph. There are two riding modes on offer, and it comes with a hub-mounted motor with 5.9bhp and 33Nm of torque.

In terms of features, the ST 5.1kWh variant comes with a touchscreen TFT instrument cluster, call/SMS alerts, music streaming, voice assist, Alexa connectivity, app-assisted turn-by-turn navigation, OTA updates and remote charging status among other things.

Verdict

These electric scooters come with the highest claimed range on offer, which makes them suitable for intercity rides, as they can carry respectable speeds on the highway while also negating range anxiety issues.
