Sixth Generation Of Audi A6 Revealed - India Bound?

Audi A6, the mid-size luxury saloon which had a golden period in India from 2011 to 2016 - when the fourth generation (C7) became the hottest luxury car in the country - is soon launching in a new avatar. This will be its sixth generation. From the photos, it doesn't look even 10% similar to the current model, as everything is new - from the overall design language to the powertrains. It's sleek and elegant, plus Audi calls it the most drag-efficient ICE production vehicle in their history.

Audi A6

The brand new Audi A6 features a completely new design language - where the front appears quite wide, the LED matrix lights have gone slimmer than before, and the grille is massive, completely in the face, with the 2D logo of Audi placed in the center. From the side profile, it doesn't feel that different when looking at the window line, typical to the brand, but the door handle area is new - same like the BMW 7 Series, where one has to put the four fingers inside, and the sensors catch and open the door.

A big reason for such a type of design is to make the car more aerodynamically richer, and that brings us to a major milestone achieved by the brand with this new A6. Well, Audi says the drag co-efficient on this new car is 0.23, which is the best ever they have achieved in any ICE car in their history. So, it will be highly fuel-efficient and quick for sure.

To add more, the rear end of the new A6 appears quite busy, yet sporty at the same time. As too much is going on there - rear LED lights with graphics, below it is a continuous light strip, then at the edges of the LED bar, an extension is visible, which might work as an extra brake light. Lastly, the bumper features reflectors, two exhaust tail-pipes with chrome finish, and a design pattern which, from photos, looks like hexagon-shaped elements. So, this much is going on in the rear section, but we have to look in real life to figure out whether it looks good or bad here.

Powertrain

So, there will be two petrol engines - one is 2.0L TDI four cylinder engine - making 204 ps, and the second one will be a 3.0L TFSI six-cylinder with 367 ps and it also get electric assistance which provides extra 24 ps and additional drive torque of up to 230 Newton meters. Moreover, customers can also opt for optional adaptive air suspension, and optional all-wheel steering.

The air suspension has several benefits, such as raising the car's height to make sure the base doesn't touch when crossing speed brakers or undulated roads, also for sporty driving feel the car goes down by 10mm. On the other hand, the all wheel steering makes for agile handling and precise maneuvering. At medium and higher speeds, the rear wheels turn in the same direction, resulting in stable and even more precise handling.

The press note mentions that the A6 will be produced in Neckarsulm, Germany, and sold worldwide. However, this might not happen, as in India, Audi cars are manufactured in the state of Maharashtra, and the A6 is produced here. So, it cannot happen that this new model won't be manufactured here. Also, the price will be around Rs 75 Lakh to Rs 82 Lakh (ex-showroom). As of now, there is no report of when it will launch here, but we believe it will be by next year or late 2025.
