Skoda Kylaq: Modern 'Solid' Design
The Skoda Kylaq is the first Skoda model in India to adopt the Modern Solids design language. This includes a refreshed butterfly grille and the brand's first split headlamp setup, with the DRLs positioned above the main lights. The overall design is sleek and minimalist, with clean surfaces and no sharp cuts or creases, yet it features substantial cladding for a more robust, commanding presence, the very essence of an SUV. The alloy wheels also showcase a completely new design, with top variants equipped with 17-inch wheels, while the lower trims feature 16-inch wheels.
Interior And Features
The Kylaq represents Skoda's entry into the subcompact SUV segment, offering a range of premium features, where the cabin will remind you of the Kushaq to much extent. Inside, it comes equipped with an 8-inch digital driver display, a 10-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and a wireless phone charger. Additional comfort features include auto climate control with rear vents, cruise control, and ventilated front seats. On the safety front, the Kylaq includes 6 airbags, rear parking sensors, a rearview camera, hill hold assist, TPMS, and more as standard, making it a pretty well-equipped version. However, it does miss out on some features that rivals offer like a sunroof, ADAS, and then some more.

Engine Details: A Lone Wolf
Unlike many of its competitors in the segment that offer diesel engines, the Skoda Kylaq is available with a single petrol engine option. It is powered by a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, mated to either a six-speed manual or an automatic torque converter transmission. The engine produces 114bhp and 178Nm of torque. In terms of fuel efficiency, the manual variant offers 19.68 kmpl, while the automatic version delivers a slightly lower 19.05 kmpl per liter of claimed mileage.
Verdict
The Kylaq is another model for the brand that will help it to help push its overall sales higher. While the Slavia and Kushaq are solid performers, it needs a bit more to really kick in that road presence where you can see more and more models from Skoda to really drive up the profits. However, the competition, partiuclarly in this segment is in its next phase where all the mass market carmakers are betting heavily on this space, surpassing the previous set limits.
