Skoda Kylaq To Get New Variant Soon

Skoda India is reportedly planning to expand its Kylaq lineup with a new mid-tier variant for the 2025 model year. This move aims to bridge the significant price gap between the base 'Classic' and the higher-end 'Signature' trims, offering customers more choices under the Rs. 10 lakh mark. Currently, the Kylaq Classic starts at Rs. 7.89 lakh, while the Signature jumps to Rs. 9.59 lakh, a substantial difference and this new variant is likely to be priced at Rs. 9 lakhs, sitting at the perfect middle sweet spot. While the Classic offers essentials like LED lighting, six airbags, and rear parking sensors, it lacks features like a touchscreen infotainment system and automatic climate control. The Signature, on the other hand, adds alloy wheels, a touchscreen, and other desirable features. The new variant is expected to blend some of the Signature's upgrades with the Classic's value proposition, potentially including features like a smaller touchscreen, alloy wheels, and perhaps automatic climate control, while still maintaining a price point below the current Signature's price tag.

It's anticipated this new trim level will be priced around Rs. 9 lakh, giving buyers a more well-equipped Kylaq for a reasonable premium. However, it remains to be seen if this new variant comes with an automatic gearbox or not. Keeping the premium of Rs.1 lakhs in mind for the automatic variants in the Kylaq's line-up, if the automatic gearbox is introduced at Rs. 10 lakhs mark, it would be another significant boost to the overall appeal of this sub 4 meter SUV. The current variant and price table look something like this:
Variant | Manual | Automatic |
Classic | Rs. 7,89,000 | N/A |
Signature | Rs. 9,59,000 | Rs. 10,59,000 |
Signature Plus | Rs. 11,40,000 | Rs. 12,40,000 |
Prestige | Rs. 13,35,000 | Rs. 14,40,000 |

Engine Details

The Skoda Kylaq takes a different approach to its powertrain compared to many rivals in its class. While some others offer a diesel option as well, the Kylaq keeps it simple with a single, refined petrol engine. This 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged unit delivers 114bhp and 178Nm of torque and comes paired with either a six-speed manual gearbox or an automatic torque converter. Fuel economy is a strong point, with the manual version boasting a claimed 19.68 kmpl and the automatic a close 19.05 kmpl.
Verdict
The current gap between the base andt the second-base trim makes the shift to the higher model a big leap in terms of the price difference. Carefully placing a bridging trim will balance out the structure and price to value ratio, amking sure the Kylaq has something for everyone. I would love to see Skoda adding the automatic variant as well which will help it stand strong against the likes of Tata Nexon that gives you an option for petrol autoamtic under Rs. 10 lakhs.
