Volkswagen Group has achieved a new milestone in India, the group has produced 15 lakh units in its Chakan plant. The Skoda-VW Chakan plant in Pune was started in 2009. Skoda-Volkswagen India Production Milestone
Skoda Volkswagen Group started the Chakan plant in 2009 and the Skoda Fabia was the first car to roll out from the factory. Now, the brand has gained a significant position in the Indian market and the Chakan plant contributes to 30 percent of export for the brand. Also, India is the fourth largest export hub for the Skoda VW brand. The plant has produced vehicles like the Volkswagen Vento, Volkswagen Polo, and Skoda Rapid.
Currently, the plant produces the MQB-A0-IN platform-based vehicles which include the new Volkswagen Taigun, Volkswagen Virtus, Skoda Kushaq, & Skoda Slavia. The new MQB platform vehicles contribute to 3 lakh unit production. Additionally, the plant has manufactured 3.8 lakh 1.0-litre TSI engines.
Skoda India currently offers Skoda Kushaq, and Skoda Slavia in the Indian market. Volkswagen India, on the other hand, offers 3 vehicles in the Indian market namely the Volkswagen Taigun, Volkswagen Vitus, and Volkswagen Tiguan.
Commenting on the new milestone, Piyush Arora, Managing Director and CEO of SAVWIPL said, 'The significant output of 15 lakh vehicles at our Chakan plant, coupled with the production milestone of four successful MQB models and the 10-year journey of our engine shop stands testament to our dedication to Indias automotive industry and SAVWIPLs significant contribution to the nations talent and workforce."
