Speed 400 Based Triumph Thruxton 400 New Pictures Surface: Details

Following the launch of the Bajaj-built Triumph Scrambler 400 X in India, there have been sightings of another model on the same platform that strongly resembles the larger Thruxton 1200, the Triumph Thruxton 400. This new bike shares its underpinnings with the smaller Triumph Speed 400. When the Bajaj-Triumph partnership initially announced the 400cc platform, there were speculations about potential future models, including a Thruxton 400 Cafe Racer.

Despite the already launched Speed 400 and Scrambler 400X, the recent sighting of the Thruxton 400 undergoing testing yet again is caught on camera from new angles.

Triumph Thruxton 400: Cafe Racer Based On Speed 400

The recently spotted Triumph Thruxton 400, based on the Speed 400 platform, maintains several design elements from its sibling, the Speed 400. These include the wheels, bar-end mirrors, round LED headlights, and teardrop-shaped fuel tank. Notably, the test mule exhibits distinct features indicative of its Speed 400 lineage, such as the upswept exhaust muffler and a 17-inch front wheel.

Analyzing the recent spy shots, it's clear that the single-piece seat maintains consistency with the one found on the Speed 400. However, the pillion grab rail stands out with a more squared appearance compared to the rounded design on the Roadster variant. Additionally, the test mule is equipped with Pirelli Rosso 3 tires, the same compound used by the international Speed 400 model. It's worth noting that for the Indian market, locally sourced MRF or Apollo rubber might be employed.

Setting itself apart from the Speed model, the Thruxton 400 showcases a cafe racer front cowl, more aggressively positioned footpegs, a minimalist rear LED taillamp, and indicators that have been repositioned lower on the USD fork to accommodate the fairing. This combination of classic and sporty design elements adds to the anticipation surrounding the upcoming Thruxton 400 Cafe Racer.

Engine Specs

In terms of the powertrain, the upcoming Thruxton 400 will closely mirror the Speed 400, housing a 398.15cc single-cylinder DOHC liquid-cooled 4V engine. This powerplant is capable of delivering a peak power of 39.5 bhp at 8,000 RPM and 37.5 Nm of torque at 6,500 RPM. The package will include features such as ride-by-wire throttle, slip and assist clutch, a 6-speed gearbox, and more.

The Triumph Thruxton 400 shares its front suspension setup with the Speed 400, featuring USD front forks; however, this test mule showcased a black finish instead of the gold seen on the roadster variant. Elements such as radiator positioning, exhaust routing, and the end can closely resemble those of the Speed 400. Notably, the Thruxton 400 distinguishes itself with clip-on handlebars, contributing to its cafe racer styling.

Launch And Pricing Details

Triumph has recently introduced its 400cc twins, so the launch of the Thruxton 400 might take some time. For reference, the Speed 400 is priced at Rs. 2.33 lakh, while the Scrambler 400X costs Rs. 2.63 lakh (both ex-showroom, Delhi). Considering this, it can be anticipated that Triumph will position the Thruxton 400 in between these models in terms of pricing, providing potential buyers with a diverse range of options within the 400cc segment.
