Tata Nexon EV BaaS
Tata Motors seems to have taken this initiative after taking note of the MG Windsor's success. It is expected to introduce BaaS for the Nexon EV. Later on, this option will be also available for other electric products- Tiago EV, Tigor EV, Punch EV and the latest entrant Curvv EV.
The EV giant registered about 14.75 per cent YoY in August 2024 which is mainly because of the increased competition in the EV segment. So, apart from just lowering the ex-showroom price, the brand will also have an advantage over its competitors. The timeline for the brand to launch BaaS is still not known.
Windsor's 15,000 Mark in a Single Day
The BaaS program proved to be a game-changer for the JSW MG Motor. The newly launched Windsor EV got over 15,000 bookings on the first day. The brand now also has a BaaS option for the Comet EV and the ZS EV. All in all, the BaaS worked well for the MG and that's why Tata Motors is deliberating to adopt the same.
Tata Motors' BaaS Benefit
Currently, Tata Motors has electric vehicles in its portfolio, ranging from 7.99 lakh (lowest) for the Tiago EV to the highest 21.99 (ex-showroom) for the Curvv EV's top-end variant. After the introduction of the BaaS, we can expect around a 30 per cent drop in the ex-showroom prices of each electric vehicle in the brand's portfolio with a battery rental charge ranging from 2.5 to 3.5 per km. If implemented soon, this strategy could be an answer from Tata Motors to JSW MG Motor, proving its unrivalled (at least for now) dominance in the segment.

Verdict
The brand's decision to introduce BaaS for the Nexon EV is a strategic response to rising competition, particularly MG's success. By lowering ex-showroom prices and offering flexible battery options, Tata aims to strengthen its market position. If executed well, this could boost affordability and appeal, reinforcing Tata's leadership in India's rapidly evolving electric vehicle market.
